![]() | Computer hardware question I am going to be getting a system for my kids to play World of Warcraft. The mother board is a geforce 8200. So, 1. would the graphics run warcraft without any problem 2. its running vista, so should i add more RAM (2gb at the moment) would like to downgrade to XP but cant seem to find any drivers that support the hardware. Last thing i need is them constantly moaning about the game being jittery and unplayable, i get that enough as it is. |

most gaming performance is down to the graphics card, not the motherboard, although that does have some bearing on it. as i have no idea about warcraft i'll defer to someone who does... if you need a decent computer place to ask then there is always the kustoms forum... http://forums.kustompcs.co.uk/index.php? |

You buying a pre-built system or building one yourself? If pre-built put a link up, if not how much you looking to spend? World of warning if they're not playing it already, World of Warcraft is like a heroin addiction, I know loads of people who play it 6 or 7 hours a day! |

A Geforce 8200 is the Graphics Card not the motherboard. I believe this should be ok running World of Warcraft but perhaps not on maximum graphics settings. Remember, Vista cannot utilise more than 4Gb of ram unless you have the 64bit version so buying anymore than this is a waste of money |

Ah it's onboard Graphics. Hmmmm I would hazard a guess at saying it may be a bit choppy playing online. How much you looking to spend. I can help you find something in your budget |

I could build it myself but cant be ar5ed. Although if i'm going to have to open the bloody machine up, waste warranty and upgrade straight away, then self-build may be the only option.

I think my the gfx card on my laptop is an 8200. I used to play WoW on it quite fine. WoW's graphics engine is 5 years old now and can run well on most systems. System memory, and processor will make a bigger difference unless you want to run at silly resolutions etc. |

I recently upgraded my laptop from Vista to XP Pro and it runs so much quicker. Found all the necessary drivers on the Acer website and on manufacturer website

Oh dear as a 4 year world of warcraft veteran... i would reccomend anything above 8600GT range simply because , yes wows engine is 5 year old, however the expansion is more demanding, you can get 8600 and 8800 GT which is adequete , if your gona run vista then 4 gig ram is pretty much what your gona need to be hassle free. Ok reality. Warcraft led me to major health risks, i put on 4 stone through sitting at adesk eating pizza gulzing pop and cans of beer. Now its good fun , really good fun but its addictive, more addictive than xbox live game ive played, im talking 48 hour sessions. My daughter started it when she visited and thats all she wanted to do is play on it, so i put a stop to it. If you can police your self or the spawn, then great, but if you have addictive personalty your in huge danger ! |

I run wow on a fairly old system compared to todays market. P4 3Ghz with 2gb of RAM (windows XP) Just upgraded my Graphics card to a ATI X1800 512Mb card from a ATI x800 256mb card. Runs the game fine, the only real thing thats annoying with warcraft is the lag you get but unfortunatly theres not alot you can do about it when the server decides to be a pain in the @rse. The only thing want now is a widescreen monitor ![]() It is quite addictive, i only play it for an hour here and there, and the odd 4hr session when its raiding time but thats normally 1 a week or 2 weeks. Kyrocera @ Thunderhorn if anyone in interested. |
