They provide logistic to other active forces
work closely with RAf
keep our waters free from pirates.
work with joint forces ect, look on Navy website.

Having just been to the Navy Careers Office with my son, the point above with the smiley is what they told us ( our waters meaning British waters around the world ) is quite current at present..

The most important part of the RN has been missed. Submarines. Operational, not decorational. The cold war is still on you know.

Think back to the Falklands, that was only 25 years ago and was a naval war. We would not have been able to get there let along win there with out the RN. You never know where the next war is coming from so always have to be ready for all possible conflicts.
Also the fact that we are an island and an island with out a Naval force would be quite vulnerable and weak.
