Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

Without getting caught up in politics (as we have been there before ) does the future concern you in terms of:

Credit 'Crisis/Crunch'
Cost of food
Cost of fuel
Cost of energy at home
Value of your house/mortage issues
Your job as a result of the above

To what extent do the above (and any other factors) have you starting to think differently about your short, medium and long term future?

Have your spending habits/lifestyle/career choice already changed?

As stated, no "this government is sh1t" discussion as that will go on all day

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

the price of diesel is killing me i travel to work which is 270miles the after my 4 day shift i travel back home. i could get home easily on £20 now its more like £40. if the prices keep rising i'll have to quit my job and look for work back home

the price of food is annoying too but i guess thats linke to fuel costs

im not overly concerned about my house as my and my brother share it and we are not selling it in the near future. but i do keep an eye on it

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

Hi,

i'm afraid all of the above, cant afford to drive my rx8 any more so that has to go, went for a a 3 bed house and the mortgage was over a thousand pound a month just on its own,

I have recently just started a new career in I.T so the money is not to great but the wife works also, She works in London so we have 2 wages coming in as well but we now have a baby on the way so it will be down to me to run the house ect just on my wage until she goes back to work,

VERY WORRYING TIMES!!!!!

and it is said to continue and get worse up to a possible 2015, Lets hope not or im fuked, lol

And like i said between us we dont do to bad and it baffles me how others cope and still manage to have holidays away.

I wonna be a kid again life was so much easier, lol

it worries me to a point, You coulkd say im lucky in a way as im 22 i still live at home i sold my house last year just before this all started happening. On the downside me and my g/f were going to get a house next year but with the way things are this may be almost impossible next year.

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

Fortunately I'm not feeling it financially and housing wise I am waiting for the real crash so I can pick up some pieces!

It will pass as these things do it's just the casualties along the way that are a concern. Not nice to think old pensioners cant afford heat or food is sky rocketing and those on a tight budget are going to cut back on what??

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

the fact that everyone seems so worried mean it has being priced into the market - there will be good bargains ahead, the credit crisis will not get worse as everyone is aware of it, what people need to be worried about is factors they are not considering, credit crisis should not even be called a "crisis" it is forcing some people to change habits but thats the cyclical nature of life, the economy goes through peaks and troughs and whenever we are in a trough everyone thinks its is a "crisis". Fact is that when people talk about it and are aware of it it means we are into the worst of it already.

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

On the radio the other day, it said that for a single person to live a no frills life they would need to earn £13k a year - and that doesn't take into account mortgage or rent ! A couple with 2 kids needs £26k a year.
Considering cost of living goes up and up, yet wages stay the same I think it is a scarey time for many people. For those without private pensions (and I doubt many can afford to put much into one at the moment) it is even scarier as the state pension gives you £8.5k a year !!!!

I have stopped spending on my credit cards and overdrafts.

But they reckon the motor trade is dead on its feet which is absolute rubbish because I work for Toyota and we are selling loads.

The government being ****eers with the road tax is really helping our small engined stuff

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

Fuel costs are unreal. It now costs me £85 per week in diesel to fill the van. As we all know when the fuel costs go up everything goes up. I can't "do" anything about it and I'm lucky that I don't need to hold back on certain things because of cost. I am very lucky as I sold my house last year just as everything was slowing down and I am renting at the moment. I will not buy another house in the uk.

I've just returned from Austraia where the fuel is half the price. Day to day living costs are about the same but the mortgage/interest rate is just under 9%!!!!!Compare that to the rate in the UK and the UK market dosent look to bad.

I think the temperature, wage and lifestyle out there have swung the deal though and I'll be starting my visa application as soon as I can.

Yeah it worries me - I live alone so get no help or support, and it's expensive enough paying mortgage etc alone without the cost of everything else going up!

Credit crunch - I'll not be applying for credit anyway so no

Cost of food - it's not too bad as long as you stay away from supermarkets but it's getting difficult to get quality food at a decent price

Fuel is a killer - I can barely afford to drive at all - even though I get expenses to cover fuel used for work, I just can't afford to visit friends or family at all, it's just too expensive

Energy bothers me because there's nothing much you can do - they all put their prices up. Luckily it's summer so shouldn't be too bad for a bit, but dreading winter

My mortgage is fixed for 2 years so will see what happens but I have no intention of selling my flat anyway, so the price drop doesn't bother me too much

My job should be pretty safe for the time being despite government cutbacks

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

Its NOT a 'Credit Crunch' but Labours way of covering up a 'Recession'!
Not a political statement just a fact, all governments go through good times then hard times, this is Labours, but they are trying to hide it under another name.
Be prepared for another 18 months of this, then it will start to pick up.
Just my thoughts, based on education and life lol
