Thanks for the posts so far

anyone worrying about the tax on older vehicles...looks like it may sting some people and the 'lower income families' at that

That for Sunderland is a lot though, how are others in your area finding it?

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

i am a self employed personal trainer and havent seen a down turn in business yet although some of my client partners have been made redundant but luckily found new jobs v quickly.
The one thing that i have noticed is how much fuel i am putting into my car - i used to put £20 a week in and be more than comfortable - now its more like £50 !!

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

Fuel is just stupid, i spend over 100quid a week in diesel! I haven't noticed my food bill going up, i think there are always 'deals' in various supermarkets so just got to shop around. Definately noticed energy bills going up. I have cut back on going out but think that is also due to getting older now and not having as many holidays as past years and i am selling my car because running 2 vehicles is unnecessary. (its on sale on this board if interested ha ha) I'm self employed and get paid alot in cash so i'll just declare less earnings this year to cover the bills.

I am moving to Australia in 18 months, lived there when i was younger, hot weather, better surf, cheaper cost of living and my wages would be the same so i'll be better off. I England, Britain but think this country has been going down hill for a long time!

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

I'm not overly concerned: I have a secure job with decent pay, no credit liabilities other than a few hundred on Mastercard, and I moderate my outgoings by shopping around, as I always have done.

But I understand why many people are feeling the effects and are worried. But how many of these people worried about credit got themselves in over their heads because they didn't/couldn't exercise a bit of self-control?

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

I'm constantly worried, stressed and have little to no disposable income, despite at 25 years old having an excellent, secure, well paid job, well above the national average and miles above what someone my age typically earns.

If I'd done what I do now 10 years ago I'd be classed as an affluent young bachelor yet now I just 'get by'.

I'm not married, live alone (bought my first property 3 years ago), have no dependants and I can just about afford a decent apartment, above average car and a cheap holiday if I'm really careful with my money.

Although my existance is a very happy one in all things non money related, with regards to lifestyle etc I consider myself just to be 'getting by'.

People like me are bled dry at the moment.

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

I'm not worried about it. More just annoyed that it has happened.

This country should have a solid economy.

It's even harder to swallow when every week you have to read about some mid ranking no mark MP earning too much for too little and still getting caught with their fingers in the till.

It seems like the answer to all of Britains problems is tax and higher tax.

Rant over and sorry!

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

Hmmm it kind of effected me a little bit, but I just restructured my debts nicely from it. I think less people are borrowing so lenders are giving decent rates on loans etc to people with good credit.

I guess my job should be under threat, my company lost 500million last month but they are still up 2.6 billion year on year so its not too bad yet, another few months like that and it could be tho :( Still there are lots of jobs in my sector and i'm sure I'd get another one quickly. I had a few interviews elsewhere last month and had some good feedback, I didn't persue any tho, I guess that in my mind its a bad time to move (last on in, first one out), and also that bonus's are decided a little bit by length of service and this should be my third and considering the market conditions, it may be a lot less elsewhere.

I have lost around 50k since November on stocks tho, my company gave us all decent stock grants and since then our share price has dropped from $32 to $16.5 - a direct follow on from the 'credit crunch', but that money was never really mine, but still it hurts lol.

Fuel and food tho havent really effected me, between me and my GF we pull in decent money for a young couple and so disposable income is high (given we both work in town, lunch, coffee etc it has always been expensive).

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

Feeling it the same as most other people. £50 every six days to fill up. Food bill is noticeably more expensive, I need to go back to weekly shops again me thinks.

I've got outstanding debt which R4pes my account every month.

Car loan from 4 yrs ago plus credit cards. Bout 8K in total, looked at sticking it on my mortgage but not sure that's the best way to deal with it.

Ouch. In saying that, I've got shares in HBOS and a year ago they were worth over £10 each...
