Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

i could feel the pinch 18 months ago, people just not spending like what they used too and businesses around here are closing down everywhere, the once busy pubs are now not busy at all and many are up for sale... it has taken a while for this to happen for them so it hasn't "just happened" overnight, up to now i am 30k out of pocket on last year so basically after over heads etc i am getting the same money as a spar checkout girl !!!

Exclamation Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

I used to shop in 1 supermarket. Now I have to shop in 4 cause 1st cheaper for toillete and bathroom also drinks stuff. 2nd Anther for tinned stuff. 3rd for meat and tinned stuff. 4th Then anther for bit everything. Had to go to 4 shops to save half the bill in shopping now its the way things have gone.

Also saving more now cause if you save in the building socity you get high interest best time to save now and invest in isa bond etc.

Petrol have to go to certon garages now also keep the car topped up even if only used £5 petrol. I allways keep full to the top now to keep the cost down rather then near empty big lump in one go.

Holidays abroad never been in my life 27 went last month so cheap. this country cant go on holiday here so dear everything. so went abroad going again end of this year. 2 holidays abroad in 6 months it be just shows how I have changed. allways this country not anymore to expensive now.

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

it wont be long before all of these buzz words are simply replaced with recession.. im sure of that..

We're in a fairly good position to cope with it at the moment though.. we have reasonable incomes for the area, low rent on a decent house, no kids yet and no major debts.. So as long as nothing major changes i recon we can just sit this one out and hopefully pick up a nice cheap house in a few years.

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

Well i am pretty worried about food prices and fuel etc. but im sure there will be pros and cons for me. I live in a nice house in the lakedistrict i share with my brother with no mortgage. Both looking into selling up and moving in with the gfs and waiting for the **** to fall out of the housing market and buy a couple of cheap properties each to rent out in a near by town and use the income to pay for a mortgage on a nice property to live in

diesel is terrible, i get a company car but actually end up paying to do business miles in it as the money i can claim back doesnt cover it, that and a nasty monthly mortgage payment on a house i bought just before this all started do have me worried. i keep thinking a move abroad could be a good plan!

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

I'm not overly worried, but i understand why some people are. I'm fortunate to work in an industry that won't really be effected by a recession - or at least not as profoundly as say retail or construction. I also do not own a house.
I'm aware that sustained economic growth is simply not possible in the real world. Every economy experiences cyclical boom/bust periods.
I don't much care for winter, but i'm never worried cos i know that summer is only a few months away.

Well, I'm being taxed more on my national minimum wage job and pretty much anything that I need costs more...if I had to sum it up in one word I'd say "Peachy".

That is actually costing you more as your car is pulling around 50-60kg of fuel all of the time, better off leaving it empty and just putting £5-£10 when you need it.

Re: Does the current financial climate in the UK worry you?

It is getting worse each month . I work in the food industry ( bread ) the orders have increased 10% so we have more pressure on us to maintain the machines and keep them producing with very little down time .

I have been informed that car tax in september will increase to £400 if you own a vechicle 2.0l or higher . My tax is due at the end of the month so I will be renewing for 12 months insted of 6 months . Also a few of the lads who drive 4x4 or 2.0l like myself and car tax runs out after september are returning their discs for a refund then applying for a 12 month disc before the increase comes into effect .

Just a point to note if you drive a large car

Move to America it may be increasing its own prices slightly but at the end of the day its dirt cheap.
Now you think England has it bad, most of my family are in Swizerland and a kg of chicken costs over 20 euro.
