Re: what bike?

I race a ktm 450 supermoto and i would not advise to get one on the road. They are great on the track as they turn in really well due to the steeper fork rake they have, but as soon as you open them up you will get alot of headshake.

If i was you i would go for a new aluminium fram Yamaha 450, really easy bikes to work on and solid bikes, if not then a crf 450, had one of them before and superb, aslong as you keep up the maintenace.

Stay clear of suzuki - **** the gearbo, and kawasaki - **** the engine

Re: what bike?

I dont race but i'm on my 3rd KTM and love them.I currently own a 450exc and a 950adventure.

Depending on how tall you are would determine which bike to go for....i'm 6' 2 and the ergonomics of the KTM's are best for taller people whereas the WR450's feel awful for me yet my shorter mates like them.
For purely on the road....hmmmm,KTM 690 SM although i prefer the 950SM.

What exactly are you planning to do?
Enduro's?
Street blasts?
MX?
All?

Re: what bike?

No way would i buy an Aprillia nor MV Agusta unless i had mega money for potential servicing etc.

KTM 450/525 exc or CRF450 or the WR450.....have a go on each one or at least sit on them and see which fits you best.I think the CRF is the best for outright power in SM guise but unless you're an enduro god(trust me i am a decent rider),it aint happening.
The KTm produces lovely power, but the 450 is slightly more harsh in the mid range but i like it that way.Front end....you'll either love it or loathe it....i like it(i have fatboy springs in my suspension from K-tech).Ergonomics wise it's the best bike for me by far and i am 6'2 and 240lb roughly.....or 245lb in riding gear?
The WR is a a nice bike but depends what year you're looking at and needs a fair bit of cash throwing at it to unleash its proper potential.

Out of those 3 bikes i'd buy the KTM everytime.....

Re: what bike?

The aprilia is great on the tarmac, but pretty useless when it comes to the offroad.
There was a problem with the 450 and 550 blowing the oil filter housing covers off, and a bit dear to replace.

I will just throw another dilema in for you and say a nice alloy frame yam 450 or crf 450 (even tho i ride ktm) if you want a bit of allsorts

Re: what bike?

If that's all you base your choice of bike then you're missing the point of riding on the road.

Who's this aimed at? If it's me,then read the posts properly and you'll find that he wants to ride on and off tarmac hence the choice.
If it's not,carry on!!
