( z ) ( z ) = 0
i thought it would be z + 3 and z - 5 but i couldnt get the - 8z from doing FOIL.

you have the numbers right but they should both be -

there is a way to set it out and get the - or + but i cant remember, the numbers we have to factorise are like 2.956453823 etc, we just use the quadratic formula.

English language is easy, you just need AFOREST techniques n persuasive writing etc.

Lit isnt at all, remembering all the poems and short stories and writing how writers use imagery or personification etc isnt easy at all.

Didnt think of trying two -s

So ( z-3)(z-5) = 0

So z - 3 = 0 or z - 5 = 0

z = 3 or z = 5

The quadratic equation is

Is my answer right or should i have been using that method of finding it when theres a + and a - .

It is a non calc paper tho.

Re: GCSE Maths - Really need help

For gods sake theres loads i cant do.

Make x the subject of y = m + x / x - 2

Prove that x + 2/x - x - 1/x+1 = 2 (2x + 1)/x(x + 1)

you wont have to use the quadratic equation on a non calc paper, you just need to remember to try all different possibilities.

Re: GCSE Maths - Really need help

Thanks alot. But, youno on that question you did earlier
zsquared - 8z + 15 = 0 and you got z = 3 and z = 5

when i used the quadratic formula on my calc i got z = 6.8 and 3.1

Which is right ?

thanks for the link.

you dont need to use the quadratic formula, so dont use it!

Re: GCSE Maths - Really need help

I got (for the original equation):

5x-1=2x² +1
-2 = 2x² -5x
2x² -5x = -2
(2x -1)(x-2) = 0

if 2x-1 = 0
then
2x =1
x = 0.5

if x-2 = 0
then
x=2

so x = 2 or 0.5

I think thats right. I'm ashamed how rusty I am though. I aced GCSE and A level maths, then did very advanced maths in my engineering degree but I really dont remember any of it. I must have killed too many brain cells with guinness back then...
