I have been in classes where I have got on well with the teacher and done well, but that may because you 'try' more because you like that person, and so it is not a true reflection of the teacher.

by the way nathan, just wondering, do you go to a private school or state school. not that i hold prejudices at all, your posts just made it seem like you do?!

Re: pupils on teacher interview panels

To be fair one of my fav teachers from school was a grizly old science teacher who hated kids, he was a brutal man who used to tell the kids they were worthless and wouldnt amount to anything. I saw kids that thought they were cool be reduced to sobbing wrecks in his class as he would use there tatics against them and humilate them infront of the whole class.

He was a good teacher wouldnt suffer fools and I learned alot - he was not my friend, ne never tried to be but there was always respect. And everyone but the retards and troublemakers passed.

Sadly few teachers are like this anymore, to many are like my art teachers failtures at life who took teaching as a way out of the real world for a stable wage and extensive holidays. No wonder none of the kids now respect them because even as adults i cant respect them. Even kids can pick up on a looser.

Re: pupils on teacher interview panels

There are some teachers who just cant controll things and teach.

2 years ago there was a teacher at my school who got bullied. He would get pies chucked at him, spat at etc.

Re: pupils on teacher interview panels

Hav to say when I was at school (less than 10 years ago) I respected the teachers who showed confidence in their ability and above all- knowledge. After all, that is what education is about.

Of course those who communicated it in a way that was interesting and fun I liked best. But then there were those who showed little subject expertise but who tried to compensate by being my friend and having a laugh. I thought these guys were t0ssers.

Subject knowledge is not really assessed in teacher interviews. So, the friendly yet unable t0sser who I mentioned last would be most likely to be given the job going off the criteria outlined by the lads who have posted from the student point of view.

Everything is political. In our "stakeholder society", Headteachers have to show that they care about "Student Voice". Plenty schools have a student Governor.
However, I think that Headteachers are pretty shrewd - they will give the job to the person they think is best. They'll listen to the student voice - but prob ignore it! It's basically PR.

I am a teacher
