you'd be surprised alot looking under the bonnet, everything is old in it. it's simple and works, this is the first breakdown it's had away from the usual. clutch went once because my mum can't change gear but that's about it.

Re: Any mechanics on site?

yeah mate find out what engine is in it

could be the hcs/crossflow 8 valve, which will be single point inj

or 1.25 zetec 16v engine which is multi-point

anyway you cant go wrong with throwing a fuel filter on it,

if its the zetec id bet my last pound the coil pack is gubbed!!

carb engines are effectively a vacuum feed device relying on variable pressures to fuel the engine rather than the pressurised forced induction of a fuel injected system.
I think what I meant to say was that maybe the needle valve has to be replaced...His problem sounds the same as I had on my jeep a couple of months back and when I replaced the needle valve that was the problem for me...unfortunately it's all down to the process of elimination...

Re: Any mechanics on site?

it could be anything really...

if i was under the bonnet i would be able to see what was going on...

it would help to actually know what type of engine it is... my bet would be the carburretted crossflow but i moved away from ford after killing my 1600 pinto engined cortina mk 4....

it can t be carburrated tho mate its a 99 model.

it has to have a cat so needs better feul control than a carb can provide

you still have a working one?

blimey...

cams were easy to fix... in fact, it all was....

another good mod.. sierra 5 speed gearbox... all you have to do is change the first motion shaft... either that or stick the complete engine/gearbox in in one go.

Still works, still has minimum rust

Yeah it's had a Granada engine and Sierra box but it was like that when I bought it - rattles in the tunnel and scares my passengers! Fixing the cam just means I can hear everything else

Only major problem with it is the price of petrol means I can't drive it as much as I'd like

Re: Any mechanics on site?

My car is doing exactly the same.

It won't start when it's been left for about an hour. I've had the fuel filter changed & it hasn't sorted the problem.

It's gone into Ford today for them to have a look as it's still under warranty. I'll keep you posted.

i never even thought of that, if it's closed or something it would explain why the engine is starving of petrol.

Re: Any mechanics on site?

Ok. Ford rung me & said the injector leak off pipes are knackered. That may be your problem if your car isn't starting after being left over an hour or so like mine?

Re: Any mechanics on site?

got a mate who is a mechanic by trade round. we bypassed the electrics. cable from battery to pump, it pressurised and started the engine which led us to the assumption of a problem with the electrics. (turns out it was a leccy pump but as it was getting no juice we couldn't hear it buzzing) we opened the auxilliary fuse box under the lid, number 1 slot, black fuse - opened it up, it was a diode. we wrapped copper round the plugs on the diode to bypass it temporarily. jump started the car and it worked fine, no problems.

went the gym, went home, got in car about 2 hours later, gone again. doing my nut in now, it's going the garage first thing in the morning.

diode was still wrapped up, nothing i could see wrong, hopefully the garage will get it sorted.
