i moved into my house in november, i got bt to port the phone line over, etc and i want it so i just pay them for the actual phone line (i have two mobiles so dont use the land line, i just need it for the broadband)

i phoned them about 2 months ago and explained i was not happy at paying for a friends and family package that wasnt mine and that i hadnt set up, i asked why i had to pay for something that was effectively someone elses (the previous owner)
i told them that i had not made a single call, i had received but not made any (i didnt even know where the numbers were)

so they explained there would be a charge, i decided to wait to see what the charge was, my boss recently did the same and he was charged £50, the friends and family is £40 so i wasnt that bothered

i got a bill on friday and theyre charging me £206.50 for what theyre calling a "cancellation of free evenings and weekend calls"

this money will come out by Direct Debit on the 22nd

does anyone have any suggestions as im going to bollock them tomorrow, and i mean bollock them

Eh if its the previous owners...then tbh you shouldnt be paying anything for there cancelation fees o.o So id say tell them to GTF!!
I'd personally stop them taking the money out cause if they do and u get a refund they will only give u it in credit if im right :/
its not your bill to pay so dont pay it ,my guess is there trying to screw cash outta you!

right i spoke to them today and got nowhere

i got through to bin ladens house and the spack on the other was told of the outline and how i was not paying the extra dough,
the computer system conveniently went down and i was told to ring back in two days, i asked for a supervisors name so i could write a letter, he explained that his supervisor would not be able to help as the whole system was down (spack)
so i bullied him into getting a first name and that was it

cue me then going back int othe office and drafiting a bitchy letter to bt and the ombudsman, if i have not heard anything by the 20th (2 days before the money comes out) i will cancel it

if enough people ask i will post up a vopy of the letter

I sincerely doubt that this is anything to do with the previous owner. A BT account is personal to the person named on the bill, and when you moved they most likely renewed your contract for a 12- or 18-month minimum period. Now that you want to cancel the standard package that you signed up for, they can reasonably expect you to buy them out as compensation. Read the small print, they will have sent it to you when you moved and it should be available on their website. There will be a buy-out clause in there somewhere.

The difference in fees depends on the length of contract period to be bought out.

Now you mention "Friends & Family". F&F is a free service that BT provides on all standard call packages (not low-user, etc) and the numbers update automatically based on the numbers you have called. If you can prove that you have never dialled them (past bills?) then there is obviously a mistake on their end.

However, I did say a free service! It sounds to me that you have had something other than the standard Option 1 service - options 2 and 3 attract an additional charge per month. You really need to check your original paperwork.
