Downloading VIA newsgroups ?
Does anybody do this on here ?

Im just interested in doing it, ive been torrenting for a while and ive heard that newsgroups are a lot faster.

Anybody have any info etc how i can get started ?

Yeah i use Newsgroups all the time mate, Torrents are getting looked at very heavily just now. The way i see it, by using newsgroups they can only see how much your downloading, and cant give out any details of what your down loading. Torrents can be looked at by other parties if you know what i mean, there was an instance in the news over in America where a 16yr old got done for downloading Music, got a heafty fine from one of the Big Music Companies.

But as you know Everyone does it, its only if you get caught its the problem

I use these 2 programs together.

1 - www.newsleecher.com
2 - www.usenetserver.com
3 - www.newzbin.com

yeah mate, its like 8p a week for Newzbin, $40 for 3 months Usenetserver.com.

Once you pay mate, download until your heart is content, its not them you need to worry about, its your ISP. They prob have a limit to how much you can download, and written in there contract fair use policy, in small writting.

I download Dvd/360 games eveything, im with Sky and got 100gb a month Limit, which is more than enough

Basically, you've got two choices.

1. Go with the news group server that is supplied by your ISP. These are usually free but they will have limited content, multipart files will have files missing so you can't join them and the age retention of files will be minimal so that older files will get deleted.
They are often slow as well. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole

2. Paid for newsgroups (usually in the US). Something like Giganews, best on the planet, will cost you around $24.99 a month but will give you unlimited downloads, thousands of binary groups to chose from and most importantly, have something like 99% completion rates and a retention of 200 + days.

You'll also need a good quality newsgroup client but i'm on mac so can't recommend a PC one for you.

All true, although i did use Giganews, didnt like em, and switched to Usenetserver, but suppose its Individual choice.

Im with blueyonder but i think it all switched to virgin media. I think where on a 10mb line and our package is large.

basically what cyberheater has said, although i personally rate www.newshosting.com as a service provider.

Software wise, i like newsleecher, cheap to buy and has a decent enough search facility in it.

giga is one of the bigger ones but there are a multitude of euro based providers too, mainly dutch which can give you a much faster connection that a stateside based service. Newshosting has a euro based server farm as well as stateside so i get the best of both worlds...

With giganews, I get full speed downloads with up to 16 connections. And never had any downtime. They continually get voted the best newgroup provider year on year. Basically, they are 'the' premium newsgroup provider. But they are a bit pricey. Worth it for me.

My second choice would be www.newshosting.com who i've also tried and they are also really good. But Giganews tends to increase the retention times first.
Giganews also has a European server which is very fast.

Why didn't you like them?

yes, automatically grouping files is done, it handles, checks, repairs par files as standard, also extracts rar files automatically (if you want it to).

it isn't perfect, but is pretty close for something that is so cheap.

i have a dedicated download pc.... 3.2ghz p4 with a pair of 300gb sata drives....

works very well....
