Yes. Die shrinks on both the CPU and GPU are being developed/complete. At some point the CPU and GPU will be combined to further reduce the cost model. At some point. An Xbox will be less then 100 quid.

The same cycle will also happen for PS3.

(I'd go into more but i'm in a conference call :()

But then things like water cooling would be needed if you are combining the two? I have not read the whole lot but the heat output of a CPU and GPU combined would be crazy.

If you reduce the die size, the chip runs cooler which is the main point of reduction.

I have a ps3, great console.. Haven't had much time to play it because of work/comp prep/girlfriend and so on but aren't at work soon so will squeeze it in! GTA 5 is out on friday so I'll be getting that.

ive got a 360 after i got sick of no games on the ps2

i have had it for about 2 years now and am realistic in saying i will not get another 2 years out of it so if it conks out anytime soon i will look at a ps3

theres plusses for both though

360 = grand theft auto, call of dutys
ps3 = metal gear solid, gran turismo

The only thing I think I read some where is the xbox version will be out some 12 to 14 months after the initial PlayStation 3 edition is released to retailers. So dont hold me to this as you know what companys are like! Remember MGS 2 came out on the original xbox about a year after it came out on PS2 -.-

I own a 360 but hardly use it. I would like a PS3, but then, I would hardly use it.

One point I will make about using the PS3 as a BD player is that I've been through a couple of PS2's and original XBOX's that were used primarily as DVD players - I also know friends who've had the same with 360's. They just die quickly if you use them that much. I'd be concerned that the PS3 would go the same way.
