arthritis

I posted here as it is not an injury related or suppliment based question, as such. More a general question that falls somewhere inbetween!

Does anyone knows of any treatments for athritis. My old man has it in his knees and can hardly walk when the weather turns cold. Does anyone know of suppliments or therapies that could/would work? or maybe some exercises he could do to improved mobility. Or indeed anything else that may help.

Cheers!

Here you go Patch, you may find this of some help to start with.

Dad's had both hips replaced & looks like they are gonna do both shoulders. He used to be a powerlifter & do the highland games circuit which suspect basically ruined his joints.

Re: arthritis

depends on thr type
oesteo rhumatoid sera-positive or sera-negative.

essentially i have been researching this for years as the other half has it bad.
warm baths help.
physio (hydrotherapy for the bad days)
ice packs and heat packs alternated at 15min intervals

as for supplemnts
glucosamine sulphate, chondroitin and msm. the three together work better than one or two. worth the investment.

ibuprofen for the swelling and codiene for bad pain days cant hurt either no pun intended, tens machines are invaluable for sufferers.
infra red heat lamps on the joints specialist advises holidays to hot sunny places as the warming effect is brillient at alleviating symptoms. unfortunately a fortnight in egypt isnt available on prescription.
my missus finds wet days are worse on the knees than cold days.
uk weather sucks.
