British Army...

Anyone currently/previously been a member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces?

I am 90% on signing up in the summer after I have got a few things sorted...

Just wondered if anyone with recent experience had any good/bad things to tell me!

Re: British Army...

Well, I was planning on signing up but decided that I am not one to follow orders, at all.

Plus I love my bod as it is (intact that is) and quite enjoy living and breathing too I must say, though I know dying is not a definate it is a possibility, I have a lot of respect for those that do choose to join and serve in the armed forces, so good luck to you Robbie!

Re: British Army...

Cheers bud, I think the way the army is structured would be good for me.

Still plenty of thinking time to be done though!

Re: British Army...

ive been in joined the paras hardest thing ive ever done in my life hated every minite of it lol,its not for everyone you either love it or hate it imo.the food was sh1te no healthy eating in there mate cooked breakfast all the time sloppy scrambled eggs i missed the gym so much lost all my muscle all you do is run and do sit ups and press ups.not for me!!!dont let me put you off i know a few lads that have done realy well from it.

if i was you id join the royal engineers or something that you can get a trade out of the paras and marrines do none apart from dog handling or been first in alot of the other regs are rated sh1t but you can get alot more out of them RLC core are crap but there all the trades in the world offerd to you.my mate got all his plant licences and is now pulling a 1000 a week after tax now on cive street!!!

like i say were i was (litchfeild) the food was shocking some other camps may be better.

remember i got told that the army get 1.50 a day food alowence from the goverment and in prison they get 3.00quid a day.

for me the army doesnt look after you the way it should when you risking your life and the money is not good at all realy you mite feel rich commoing back from a 6 month tour but you will only get 6 grand not worth it but thats just me.

good look with what ever you choose

Re: British Army...

My brother was in the RAF for about 14 years (I think) and my other half was a soldier; various other members of my family are, or have been, in the police. All of them loved it.

Re: British Army...

Think very very carefully.

I was chatting to a lad over the New Year.

He is a Techie, currently serving in Afghanistan maintaining the computer and telcoms networks for the British army.

Not even really a fighter....

But some of the stuff he has endured.

Having a needle in his arm up to a bag then straight down into an Afghan National Army soliders arm, the solider had had most of his legs blown off and this guy had to sit there squeezing a ball to pump his blood into him faster while a field surgeon hacked away bits of shattered leg with scissors.

Hitching a ride with an American army convoy and being attacked by the taliban in a road side attack,

Living in a tent which has a mortor stationed outside that fires off randomly in the night a few feet away from where he is sleeping,

Watching fellow soldiers go out and never return.

He is tied in for 3 more years, no where to run, no where to hide.

I couldn't even begin to imagine it.

Brave lads.

Re: British Army...

Oh and I am not talking about when it was all kicking off - all the above happened in the last couple of months, the army has no control in Afghanistan.

Re: British Army...

I served 18 months in the army.

I had a hell of a game getting through basic training. Shin splints, stress fractures in my shins, badly twisted ankle .

Bloody bad luck and lower leg just crumbled, but the ****s still made you run on them. (basically)

Ended up on the sick for ages, eventually got medically discharged just as i got to my regiment.

This was nearly ten years ago, bloody glad now tbh. NO FUN at all being in the forces now.

Re: British Army...

I would never consider the army with the state of our foreign policy right now.

The men who are out there are brave, no doubting that, and i bet it is very scary what they are doing. I'd be ****ting myself, i know that for sure, and if you weren't you'd be one big liar!
