Re: DISPATCHES ON BBC1

i bet if she exercised regularly and ate a sensible diet she'd lose weight. the lady on that program was claiming she only ate once a day and they video'd here and she was eatin all kinds of snacks and crap all day, they videod her at work cos she said she never ate lunch and she went into a shop and got a bunch of stuff and stuffed her face with it,i didnt get to see the end as my cardio time was up but it had me laughing out loud in the gym some of the stuff she was coming out with.

by eating one small meal a day, your lady friend is doing everything she can to slow her metabolism down to a crawl. her body will naturally want to store every calorie she consumes in that meal. by eating 6 small meals a day, her metabolism would speed up and she would be able to consume vastly more calories, gaining LESS weight. she may even lose weight! combine this with an increase in physical activity and weight loss will follow as a matter of course.

you say you really feel for her - don't! she has the power to change this if she so desires. perhaps she lacks the knowledge. don't take my word for it either - i'm just a faceless bloke at the end of a pc. but do consult a professional dietician as they will be able to help and explain things far more than me.

good luck

My sister has it also.
I have to take 'thyroxine' each day also which i am led to believe i cant partake in 'natural' competitions since this is on the banned list.

I must also add, those who take thyroid altering drugs to enhance their physique will wish they didn't later in life if it all goes wrong.

I dont have much sympathy for those who sit around all day stuffing their faces and end up too fat to move though.
Has your thyroid been treated now (iodene/surgery?). Im only just getting back training after severly overactive thyroid problem. Im on Carbimazole for a year now. When i was really ill i could eat full cow yet the weight kept falling off! Do you feel you have recovered fully? Can u recover form thyroid disease?

Re: DISPATCHES ON BBC1

think ppl who only eat maybe two times per day can potentially suffer from an under active thyroid (shoot me down if im wrong )

Their body goes into starvation mode because it never knows where its gonna get its next serving of fuel, meaning it natuarlly starts to store bodyfat.

Hence why its good to eat 6 "small" meals per day to keep the metabolism on fire, think of it as throwing coal on an ailing fire to keep it burning, put no fuel on it, and it dies.... :p

Sorry for being thick but if you have a hyperactive thyroid why do you take more thyroid hormone in the form of thyroxine?

Yeah... carbimazole or similar would surely be taken for an OVER active thyroid... Thyroxine would only be taken for an UNDER active thyroid...

So if you previously had an OVER active Thyroid and had some or all of the Thyroid removed, you would be then left with an UNDER active Thyroid and as a result have to take T4 (Thyroxine...)

Re: DISPATCHES ON BBC1

A good example of people being in denial about their weight.

The fact is 99% of people are fat becuase their diet and their lifestyle - people can moan and whinge about everything else but those are the two common denominators that fat people have in common.

I disagreed with the ending, why should restaurants have to be responsible for what people eat, surely they are just supplying a demand?

I like the nanny state influence, now we have to be told what to eat, pretty soon it'll be when and where.......

Re: DISPATCHES ON BBC1

It doesn't matter how underactive your effing thyroid is or how genetical "unlucky" you may be.

IF ENERGY IN > ENERGY OUT: YOU GET FAT

It's that simple - end of. If you get fat (whatever your medical problems) the fat must come from surplus energy in your diet, it's not like your thyroid galnd magically creates fat from nowhere - so either eat less or work more. It's not rocket science - just fat idiots are too lazy/retarded to understand this.
