Anyone Else Think This Is Unfair? - UK-Muscle Body Building Community

i was working a 2-10 shift today and around 3 started feelin ill n got worse till 5:50 (i feel dizzy,sick,cloudy headed and very angry for no apparent reason) i'm not on steroids so the feeling angry could be related to my bipolar,the other symptoms are possibly from my blood being too thin (im on warfarin for a dvt) so i asked the manager if i could go home at 6....

me:can i go home i feel really ill?
her:you don't look ill.
me:i dont feel well i'm not deliberately doing it
her:i've got no-one to cover you and i'm leaving now so if you go home at 6 i might decide to cancel your contract,it's up to you.

so when another worker came in at 6 i went home,
it's not fair to threaten me with firing me,i mean look at it,going home like i have,i lose the money i work from 6-10 so it's my loss.fair enough she's gnna be short on staff but it's not my fault i feel ill.

what do you make of this?

it's not fair, but its the way some bosses are....

it is gonna be hard for them if they do cancel your contract because that is the first thing that you will say down the dole office when they asked why you left...

IIRC you have only just started this job right?

He can fire you straight away

Personally, if it was me I would have stuck it out seeing as you have only been there a few weeks.

Not good to start having time off ill especially this time of year

paul if i felt i could have done my job i would have stayed,i kept havin to go outside to catch my breathe,i wasn't able to concentrate and had to keep asking the customers what they'd just ordered.

As ****ty as she has been mate, Paul is right. Employers use the probationary period to find staff who will work whilst on their last legs....truely ****ty position to find yourself in mate. Especially seeing as everyone down my way is laid up with flu...it's ****ing battered me for the last 4 days! Hope she sees sense, and gives you a break!

I would have puked there and then told the boss that I was sick but can make the end of the shift.
She would have sent you home.

actually she wouldnt,i was sick at work n told her and she said "what do u want me to do about it?"

I had to ring in on wednesday cos the gf was ill and we had no-one to look after the baby, the boss didn't believe me, im 100% sure but what can he do? It was legt anyway, we couldn't get anyone at that notice to look after her whilst I was at work.

If your really badly then your badly IMO, you don't get a pat on the back these days for soldiering on mate.

just say youve got skitters and keep going to the toilet every 20 mins, works a treat...... you'll get laughed at but you just play along with it....ha

I dont think they can cancel your contract as this would be unfair dismissal.

Not if he's still in his probationary period, which I think he is. Most company's have a 3 month probationary period.

I'm in the same position as Jimmy. My girlfriend has a string of illnesses & there is literally nobody to mind my little lad as both my parents & sisters work full time so I had no option other than to stay off.

My boss was giving me that silent pause on the phone like she didn't believe me, but at the end of the day, if she had kids she'd agree 120% with me.

in fact, within the first year you are a nobody so in reality.. being a worker sucks big time...

i'm just glad i'm well past the probation period thing now.
