Laser eye surgery

Iv had the worst eye sight ever since I was a kid, my vision is really badly blurred at all distances due to long sightedness and astigmatism. Iv only just found out that its possible to treat astigmatism with laser eye surgery and its done at no extra cost to the procedure to fix your longsight

I always thought it cost a few grand too but after looking its not a bad price atall

Anyone had laser eye surgery? Got any feedback good or bad? Know any good reputable places for the surgery?

My eye sight has always had a bad impact on my life from not being able to read black boards at school, held me back in any sport i tried, struggling to read books, unable to work in certain jobs and my optition told me im border line for even being allowed to drive, and thats with my glasses

Now i might be in a position to afford it as iv been left a small amount of money since my dad sadly died this summer, to be honest i cant think of a better way to spend it as it would make such a huge difference to my life, and to know the last thing my dad did for me was to give me the sight iv never had would be pretty cool

Re: Laser eye surgery

I have the same problem as you although it doesnt sound quite as bad. Im trying to get my licence to fly at the moment but I failed the medical last week due to my eyes. Surgery is a last resort as far as I am concerned. The problem is it is still relatively in its infancy and there is always the chance it could make your eyes worse which then leads to a quality of life issue. I am trying every other route possible before I consider surgery and even then I will have to ask myself if I want to fly that much.

Re: Laser eye surgery

My mate had it and reported back great results. However, he did say it was the most painful experience of his life.

Re: Laser eye surgery

The past two years my eye sights got worse from being 20/20

Need glasses now when driving or on the PC as if not = bad headaches and blurred TV = nopt good.

What costs are we talking about?

And Invisiblekid, I always thought it was fairly painless, but then again I don't know much about it.

What exactley do they do via laser, what is the process?

Re: Laser eye surgery

One of the things that is putting me off surgery is that my eyes havent got worse in the past 20 years that ive worn glasses. I will only go down that route if I absolutely have to. You just need to make sure its what you want and be prepared for the alternative outcome

I think alot of the risks have been reduced by no longer using a scalpel first to cut the eye to allow access for the laser to do its job. Its now all lasers and much more accurate

Re: Laser eye surgery

Oh yeah the whole thing is a lot better now and its progressing all the time. You still here the horror stories though, I had to go and see a specialist as part of my medical and after I failed we discussed my options. I mentioned surgery and he told me that they cannot recommend it as he saw a pilot a few weeks ago who went for surgery and actually came back worse. Just as long as you're prepared for that one in a million chance, thats all I say. If I can get my medical without surgery I would rather but if it comes to it I will probably go under the knife.......or lazer;)

Re: Laser eye surgery

Noturbo, If your eye sight is still getting worse (i.e not stable) you might not be able to get the surgery done just yet.

You have to prove (by your opticians perscriptions etc) that your eye sight has stabilised and has not gotten any worse in 3 years.

I have had it done and i must admit it is life changing. I had pretty bad short sight and its totaly changed life for me. However dont believe all the tv adverts about it starting at on £395 or whatever per eye, as you have to get a series of pre surgery tests done to analyse the characterists of your eye. The thinner your cornea, the more expensive the procedure gets, and depending on which procedure they choose to perform on you (theres two main types, Lasik and Lasek) the price can go even higher.

I paid £2300 for my surgery as my cornea is really thin and i had to have the Lasek procedure.

Oh and also i felt like i had bricks in my eyes for the two weeks after the surgery! which is quite uncomfortable!

But its defo worth looking into, get yourself a consulation!

Hope this helps.

Re: Laser eye surgery

Had mine done a about 3 yers ago. Thoroughly recommend it, although had my eyes tested a couple of months ago and there has been a slight change in the eye with the worst of the astigmatism. Now i have a pair of specs but just for driving at night. I send all of my time in front of 3 monitors so that can't help.

I registered with Optimax and kept getting emails with discount offers. Think I paid about £900 all in!

Go for it, and yes it hurst like hell for 3 days
