Telephone socket problem.. again

Hello guys. Got another problem with my phoneline and broadband.
Basically I stopped using a telephone extension cable for my broadband and bought a modem cable (RJ11 each end). Howver I still have a problem with connection. Sometimes I can get online and sometimes it won't connect. Then my phone won't ring out. When I phone my house from my mobile I hear a ringing on the mobile but my house phone does not ring. So I figure there must be some problem with the phone socket in my house and not the actual "outside" line so to speak. I cannot get my phone and broadband to work at the same time when I am using a microfilter. Do you think there is a problem with the pins in the connection port? Any ideas? cheers guys.

Had an issue like this last year with a friends set up. Drove me mad looking for issue, and ended up being an issue with his service provider & BT. If you are using BT you should not have a problem getting this sorted as only dealing with 1 company, only when you have a different ISP do things get messy(his was Orange ), so took some work. Maybe a call to your provider after trying new microfilters as Megatron suggests. Also testwith filters are on every extension if you don't have this just now. Good luck.......

Re: Telephone socket problem.. again

start by locating your BT master socket--usually in your downstairs hallway, it will have BT marked on it.
unscrew both the screws and remove the front-- which will reveal another BT socket underneath,
plug in a new microfilter into this socket and both your phone and your broadband cable.

you have basically disconnected the rest of your phone sockets around the house. If you still have the same problem it is either.
your phone line or your broadband modem.

next step after that it to borrow a friends modem

if you have the same problem again, it is your phone line.
check with BT you dont have any extra line services enabled-- i seem to recall call waiting used to cause problems with broadband connections when phone calls came in.

once you have done all this call your ISP and they will escalate it to BT for an engineer to attend.
if your ISP is an Indian call centre then it may be easier ringing BT yourself...

hope this helps.

Re: Telephone socket problem.. again

Basically it will be :

Distance from node .
Too many extenstions , exceeding the REN level ( too many phones connected to your line will trip it and cut out when it rings )
Simple case of staple or carpet gripper gone through cable .
Modem
Switch in node - Isdn-1 or Isdn-2 ( Isdn 2 is faster , bt reserve this for thier own customers and chuck all the ISPs on ISDN-1 LOL as anyone would .
