![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | is it really 10kg? I always thought it was 20kg as the people at my gym load the bar with 4 20kg plates to ench 100kg? but like you say there are diff types of bars which could weigh less or more...

![]() ![]() | I find the smith machine much harder to bench with than free weights and so cant lift as much on it. Usually the bar on the smith machine weigh nothing. The olympic free weights bar is usually about 45->50lb in weight. I use a 6ft 1inch barbell at home and that weighs 15lb. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I dont like benching on a smith machine - its just not the same! Occasionally I'll use it for military presses or bent over rows (trust me on this one, its good!) but not much else. Close grip benching isnt too bad.

| I only use it when I haven't got a spot, and in my gym, they're miserable fcukers, so is tricky to find a good one. The standard bench doesn't have anything to rest the bar on if you fail, so when you're benching 120kgs, it's not a good idea to use it ![]() |
