Just some positive changes that the free goverment in South Africa has contributed since coming into dictatorship.. I mean power....

The first two were probably taken around 1950 or there abouts. The last two probably in the last 5 years. There is no way in hell any goverment before 1994 would have allowed this to happen.

I hate to see pics like this.

I would like to think that the end of apartheid is something we all agreed with. The thought of a ruling class basically being above others based on colour is disgraceful.

However, I have seen and heard this on many occassions that whilst RSA looks good to the outsider the country os declining rapidly. Why is this?

Is it because resources are being spent elsewhere or just being squandered?

i think these pics are just a shameful insight to a country on the decline. Does being next door to Zimbabwe have anything to do with it?

Is it poor governing?

I doubt any problems will be admitted by the western govs as they spent so much effort getting the white rulers out.

Yes apartheid is wrong, but America and Britain seem to support Israels apartheid and slaughter of the Palestinians. How come no one tries to ever slap them on the wrist for that or the nukes they have piled up?

The whole world thinks how great everything has become in South Africa since the white man handed it over. The blacks were handed everything on a silver spoon. A fully functioning country. We now have blackout in South Africa, it's when they cant supply enough power they turn off power to sections of the power grid. They having to hire back the original white chaps at high rates to fix everything.

Zulu kings live in mansions with 10 to 20 wives, driving in luxury cars while their people die right outside their front door in poverty, rape and murder.

The government fires the only person trying to sort aids out, and the health minister says have a cold shower... it stops you getting aids if you slept with someone that has it?

Rape has gone through the roof, crime is probably the most successful business, I have lost an uncle, my friend a father and uncle and outside my gf parents place a taxi driver is driving around killing white old ladies walking on the road. Almost lost my dad a few times being hi-jacked and involved in shootouts. Lucky in the one he had men from the local Zulu chief protecting him.

Everyone hear moans how bad England has gotten. Well imagine having two passports and both countries those passports belong too are slowly getting worse and worse. One faster than the other and I was born in the latter. I hope all of you go to South Africa for the world cup in 2010... take a nice 10 - 20 minute walk away from the stadium you watching the game at, away from security. I advise nothing short a 9mm strapped to your hip! Or perhaps having your love one raped by 5 men while tied to your back would be an ideal experience (true story).

Leeston : the reason it's declined is in apartheid we were encouraged not to use machine but rather employ local labour. My dad met many farmers and business men who were given government grants to employ blacks to simply screw the brush into the handle to make paintbrushes. Now that has gone and many blacks are worse off, starving and turning to crime. The government is corrupt, money gets stolen from the lottery, the government, a play organised to raise awareness for aids got swindled off loads of cash (Sarafina). It's take what you can today and not worry about tomorrow attitude.

A recent conference Robert Mugabe stood up and every black leader applauded him including South African president Thabo Mbeki. Wont belong before SA looks like Zimbabwe.

I would love to post links to site showing all the murders that are going on, babies burnt to death, farmers sliced up and hanging by rope. But this is not the place for that.

The crime stats are disturbing - particularly violent crime. This needs to be tackled for sure - I don't think anyone is disputing this.

There's not much evidence to say that the SA economy is faultering - certainly nothing like Zimbabwe's. Post up a link to a decent piece of journalism if I'm wrong.

Its "independent" with three e's, not independant - white only schools didn't do much for you did they?

Hey Pie eater.. most of my schooling was with blacks, except the first 4 years where it was white only, I was between 5 and 9 at the time so if you want to blame a child for apartheid then go ahead.. otherwise perhaps take your attitude elsewhere. I gather you cant read cause as I stated already I copied and pasted "Independant" from an email I received. I trained in the gym with some brilliant black guys too, worked with some who became really good friends.

Perhaps you forgotten the British came to South Africa and suppressed the blacks first when colonising it? Go watch the first 2 episodes of the Shaka Zulu mini-series. Will give you an idea what happened.

Not sure what's eating you up so much.... bet you have never even been to South Africa.

22 years.... then some stupid whore who should be posted in the MA section got me to come over and I gave up my baby (car) and life to come live with you guys... I'm just kidding!! :love:

22 years mate. from birth. I loved the place, life and everything was awesome but as the years go by I look back and my heart breaks seeing it slowly deteriorate. I see how we actually lived always watching over our shoulders. Took me 2 years to get used to the idea your windows here don't have burglar bars!!

Weird thing is I go back and see massive development going on... but most of the locals cant afford to enjoy it. Loads can but your average families struggle to enjoy what tourist can easily pay for. The poverty areas could never even afford the parking to those places let alone the entrance fee.

The hospital I was born in was one of the best right on the Durban beach front. Now it's a place you only go to if you don't have 2cents to rub together and on the verge of death.

Perhaps Porky should look up Baragwanath hospital. Largest hospital in the world built in apartheid era purely for the blacks in Soweto.
