| Have you seen my goat? | painful knees i suffer from painful knees. and they click a lot. after about 5 mins pressure builds up so i have to click them... they ache a lot as well. i do block paving work but was told by the docs to change jobs and stop using my knees :S great advice! lol she reckons there is no fluid as the dip in the side of the knee would have swollen up? thing that confused me is that i read about a thing called maids knee where there is a sac of fluid at the front of the knee that can swell up? also been reading about various tendon problems etc that can cause pain. shes given me a form to get an -ray but apparently this is just to make sure im not developing artheritis, which i doubt ive got anyways. most of the builder i work with reckon its fluid from where i kneel down a lot. any advice on this? anything i can take other than ibuprofen? ive been told about glucosamine (sp?) once i get this x-ray and if it shows nothing she will send me packing, is there anything i can ask for? or any tests that i can ask her to recomend me for? my doc seem to like getting rid of you as soon as you walk in... thats why i hardly ever go there lol she put the pain down to 'over use' same as she said about my middle finger on my right hand which has a swollen joint due to 'mis use' even though i think its likely to be from using the breaker all the time... |

In my opinion the only time its worth seeing a doctor is when you need to get them to write you an Rx (Prescription) So say the average GP Salary is now around £110k pa (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7070655.stm) the vast majority of them are a waste of time and don't know what they are on about. The amount of time they've messed up with the missus is appalling, which results in me having to go down and get them to explain their thought process behind their previous diagnosis before getting them to correctly re-asses the situation and prescribe the appropriate course. Classic examples include: "We don't think theres anything wrong with you, it may be in your head" - later diagnosed with a serious condition "Well yes you will have back pain you've just had a car crash" - later diagnosed with whip lash "Just take some ibuprofen for your knee it will be fine" - Osgoodeschlaters disease... As a result I just self medicate and pay to go and see a specialist (Physio, Reflexologist, Chiropractor, Osteo etc etc etc etc) Rant over

| Have you seen my goat? | Re: painful knees yeah they gave me ibuprofen after my car crash for 'whiplash' which ended up being torn muscles and ligaments along my spine and 6 months physio. :( as for the knees i also get like a grinding crunching sound when i bend my knee... just doesnt sound right... again she said this was over use. invisible kid, i never used to use knee pads, i have started them now the pain is here but when your at work you dont really think of these things, plus the pads have alwayscut into the back of my knee if ive used them. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: painful knees Yep. GP's always have the air about them that they just want to get rid of you. My advice, if you can afford it, go private, the NHS are ****e. Been waiting for an operation for years, i goto bath hospital for a scan and the next thing they do is send me another letter saying they have no recolection of my even being there! Bunch of idiots they are. Oh yeah, when i hurt my knee playing 5 a side the GP who was an older lady told me 'not to bend it' Yeah, so how the feck am i going to walk home then? lol. |

| Banned | Re: painful knees theres a lot of things that can go wrong with the knee, taking into account your job it would seem to be work related............carpet fitters used to get a form of house maidsknee from use of the kicker a good physio is more able to suggest exactly whats causing the problem (the x ray wont show much - a scan too could help), it could be an inflamed bursa or a lot of other things |

![]() | Re: painful knees You need to get refered to the right person to get checked up, an MRI would be benificial. A GP is like a jack of all trades... unless he or she has a p[articular interest in orthapaedics its much better asking to see a specialist. They all have referal pathways. Make a fuss and the will pass u down the chain to get rid of u. You can pay to go private and skip the que. But to see a consultant and get an MRI you can be looking over £500. A wise investment as stated above, is to go to a good physio, they can do all manner of manipulation tests to see what is wrong, and in some cases they are NHS workers doing extra work so can refer you in to the NHS themselves. ![]() | Re: painful knees data protection says yes, but sometimes if u actually want a copy some trusts will try 2 charge you, as in you can hav them, but you hav to pay! As long as its still within the nhs (the physio whoever), if they have clearance, they can access all your xrays via the computer. most trusts hav this system up and running. K |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: painful knees Onion mate I have similar problems.. how do u find doing squats my I ask? I have great difficulty with them! I have no skin or something between the joints so its bone on bone I have low flewibility and i can't do a full squat... Tuesday i had to have a 70 kg guy on my back when my knees were fully bent into a squat it was really hard for me as we were on and excercise team building..and i had to stop my self falling forward...at the sametime really was awkward that day was ****ing great tuesday :P man it felt like a workout pulling people up a 15 foot sheer rock wall.. i stood on two peoples shoulders couldnt reach the rope so they had to lift me over head with their hands then had to pull myself up with what we thought was gonna be a rope but wasnt it was a a harness that went for 4 feet down the wall... i had to pull 17 people 1 after other in a harness..was at a firemans place. 1 fat guy weighed 180kg fattest guy in my college...Remember i am older than them but i had to waste two years learning swedish so i am about 2 years older than them! Lucky some guys 4 feet behind me could help pull the geezer up and my best mate helped too in the 2nd harness... but geezer he was the 2nd til last guy was hard as hell cuz of all the other activites more fun than a workout and i had ache after from doing that sort of stuff!Anyone a fireman here totally off the subject but I was wondering waht it would take to become a fully fledge fireman as I could see it as a possible career! but the prob is my knees and i cud see it being a hinderance in the job!
