| Who nicked my hair? | Re: newsgroups that is complete crap..... you can look at them via outlook express but there are much better ways to do it. depending on how serious you are you can pay for premium access to a server which has very high completion rates and a long retention. I pay 80 dollars for six months unlimited use of a server farm with 80 day retention which pretty much covers everything you could wan to download... for proper info on newsgroups and usenet follow the link below.... http://www.slyck.com/ng.php (oh, and before anyone wonders, i download about 1200Gb a month... I am what is considered a serious usenet user)

they are normally up within a few hours of being aired in usa. Prison break is 1 week ahead of the uk over there. just watched episope 3. lost doesnt start back up until til jan 2008. when you go on alluc, on the left hand side, there is a tab called 'forum' in the forum, scroll down to 'new links' and have a look. Some links dont work because the companies making the shows take them down, but new ones appear all the time. there is also a 'movie links' part to the forum where all the latest movies get put up. Found a link the other day for the new jet li film 'War' in hd quality 3 days before it was out in the cinemas. well worth checking out | |

| Who nicked my hair? | Re: newsgroups i get the full 2.25Mb/s a dvd-5 takes about half an hour to 45 mins.... my software automatically rejoins the parts, error checks them and extracts them to either a disk image or ready to burn files... i then copy stuff to another pc for burning to disk.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: newsgroups I used to use newsgroups a lot but now access a private server for my stuff . When I first got into newsgroups I found this info of great help and very easy to follow.Prices may have changed a bit now. NEWSGROUPS ................... Software Needed Newsleecher Quickpar Installing Newsleecher CODE http://www.newsleecher.com/ “NewsLeecher is a tool made for fetching and managing articles from the Usenet. It downloads Usenet articles in a snap, and uses it’s inline engine to assemble and decode all the downloads. The powerful featureset and state-of-the-art user interface makes it an application “you simply can’t live without” if you are a serious Usenet user.” 1. Install Newsleecher by left double clicking on the nl_setup.exe file. CODE http://www.quickpar.org.uk/ Installing Quickpar 1. This is simple, just double click on the exe file and install. 2. This is used to repair files that are downloaded from the newsgroups. 3.. QuickPar is a computer program that creates recovery information for a file or group of files . If such information is available and the files are damaged then QuickPar may be able to reconstruct the originals. It is often used to recover files that have been downloaded through Usenet. There are two main variant versions of PAR files: PAR1 and PAR2. The latter file format is superior to the first one, and lifts many of its previous restrictions. QuickPar is free but it is not open source, and contains no spyware. QuickPar is supported under Windows. QuickPAR uses the Reed-Solomon error correction algorithm internally to create the error correcting information. NOTE One thing i forgot to say, when you dload anything, quickpar can repair. You will file a lot of par files together with your rar/zip files. Find the par file that is named PAR2 - double click on that and it opens quickpar (assuming that you have installed quickpar on your pc!) and then it will repair your files. Wont always - sometimes you cant , ce la vie............ NEWZBIN CODE http://www.newzbin.com Go to this site and you need to sign up to use it. It only costs 25p per week but is well worth it. Instructions are simple – just follow them there. You obviously need a means to pay – they don’t do paypal anymore, but do use nochex and all major credit/debit cards. Register and create an account and then sort the money side out. Minimum amount is 8 weeks to start with, but this is only £2 – not a lot to lose, if you decide its not for you! On Newzbin you can find all movies, games, books, tv progs, well almost anything! 1. There is a search button 2. On the left hand side of newzbin, it say categories, if you click on MORE at the bottom of the first bit, you get a list on the right - have a look at that, for example, where consoles are, you will see ps2 - click on that and it will give you a list of whats available. 3. Pick one and then if you want to d.load, click on GET MESSAGE ID'S and you d.load what is called an NZB file - I usually save to desktop. 4. Double click on the nzb file and this will automatically open newsleecher and start your download. 5. Generally, there will be a pile of rar/zip files that you need to extract to get at whatever is inside, after using quickpar, of course, in case it is in need of repair. 6. It is not worth me going into details of the rar files etc, as there are so many different things regarding them, if there is a problem that you have and don’t know what to do, just message me and I will try to help. 7. Sometimes there are info files connected to the files for download, worth having a read of them, to check details, because some are say films in dutch or French – you might not want that version and also when you choose something to download, scroll down to the bottom of the page, right at the end of the rar files that are shown and you will notice people sometimes put comments. This can be very helpful, especially if there has been a problem with the download, worth reading, saves time in d.loading a dud etc. 8. BEFORE ALL THIS DOWNLOADING, WE WILL NEED TO CHECK SETTINGS ON NEWSLEECHER, WILL SORT THAT SHORTLY. USENET SERVER CODE http://www.usenetserver.com/ CODE http://www.williealba.demon.co.uk/usenet/guide/ Now if you are on NTL, you can use their newsgroups, I was, but I found it frustrating that I couldn’t get ALL of the newsgroups and therefore couldn’t download everything I wanted. I use this server. Unfortunately, you do have to pay – but it is not a huge amount for what it has to offer. Its approximately £22 for 3 months. It is in US $’s – so that’s why I say approx! Its best to sign up with Usenet - the server, because they have all the newsgroups - so you can get anything you want. Just do a trial first if you want - think thats a couple of days, then if you don’t want to carry on, you haven’t spent a fortune. 1. Go to the site, addy above and sign up - go to the second tab at the very top. Follow instructions. When you have signed up, don’t worry if you cant connect straight away, might take a short time for it to come through. 2. Once you have signed up – you can now set up the settings in Newsleecher 3. Open Newsleecher and when you have signed up - you have to add the server to your newsleecher. 4. To add usenet server in Newsleecher, open it up and click on tab USENET MANAGER - top left then click NEW SERVER - just below that on the left and fill in your username and password that you registered with on usenet and usenet addy - which is news.usenetserver.com 5. You would put that addy in the server address box - next box I have 119 - wonder if that is auto - thats the port number I have anyway. 6. Server nickname - make sure that is same, it should have repeated itself when you typed news.usenetserver.com 7. You want 4 in connections box and priority 01 8. Tick server requires login and then put in your username and password and ok all that. 9. Might take a short time for usenet to authorise you, when you log on, so dont worry if it dont start straight away. NEWSLEECHER SETTINGS As far as Newsleecher is concerned - dont think there are many settings you need to alter once installed - you need to specify where you want your downloads to go. I have just opened OPTIONS - which is the very end - just after HELP in the Newsleecher window, at the very top. That brings an options screen up On the left - click on DOWNLOADS and specify which folder you want your downloads to go into. I will go thru options for you ADVANCED - I only have Auto connect on startup ticked LOGGING - nothing ticked OPTIMIZATION - leave whatever its set up as, i dont have anything there really CONNECTION - think just leave what default is, have a look if you want to alter it yourself FIREWALL - nothing in there DOWNLOAD - specify folder for d.loads, and I always have put in subfolders ticked, otherwise all the files would be mixed up - it then puts them in folders belonging to the different newsgroups and then you can sort, easier. Group caching and Headers - should be ok as default - dont worry about them NZB FiLES - I have top box ticked, associate newsleecher................. and activate nzb import - bottom left, ticked Thats about it really - leave rest as default |
