Should i continue bodybuilding?

Guys, serious question here. After five years training, i've gone from this

http://img249.imageshack.us/my.php?i...ress002lo5.jpg

To this

http://img511.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1002011hd9.jpg

To me it's just not enough at all. I've put blood sweat in tears into trying trying to gain muscle but i just can't. It's almost embarrassing now because everyone knows how much time i spend in the gym and in the kitchen and yet i still look the same.

I've tried every training routine under the sun...I've eaten good clean food every two hours of the day.

In the member progress pics section, instead of feeling inspiration, i feel frustration and anger because there are so many people out there getting such awesome results even after such a short time (Even a couple of months).

I honestly need to look at myself and think is this sport right for me? Am i going to waste another 5 years of my life for nothing? Maybe i should just accept the fact that im who i am and just accept it. I know it sounds cleshay but it's true. It's killing me inside, making me feel like a complete failure. The ONE thing ive ever wanted to do, i can't do.

Re: Should i continue bodybuilding?

No matter how bad your genes are, if you want it that bad, providing training, rest and nutrition are spot on...theres no reason why in 5years you couldnt of changed your physique.

My opinion for you would be to find a successful member of this board - who you totally trust with advice etc - and pay them to organise training, nutrition etc and keep showing update pics, speak on the phone etc to help you get to where you want to be.

As said, if you really want it that bad, you'll get it.

Chances are your either over-training or not pushing hard enough, you say your eating every 2 hours - but are you really? What are you eating? What are the portion sizes?

Re: Should i continue bodybuilding?

ok

lets break this down

1 - bodybuilding is not going to pay the bills
2 - life is about enjoyment

these two things have to be taken into consideration

your progress for 5 years is a case of not being 100% regardless of what you may feel or being ill advised

you have done ok but that is not 5 years dedication

IF you do not enjoy it, give it up. you dont need to train to be worth anything in this world and it certainly doesnt pay the bills

if you get a buzz from something else do something else

just eat 80% ok for the rest of the time and stay active and TBh you wont be in much different state

well done for posting the pic but that to me is either 1 year of hard work or 5 years of dabbling or min information

if it gets you down find a pursuit that gets you 'up'

thats my philospophy

ps i didnt even look at your before pictures, i have worked with too many clients in the past to realise the second picture is a case of selling yourself short or having bad info

good luck whichver route you chose but BE HAPPY and dont do things that make you feel negative

Re: Should i continue bodybuilding?

Take a few steps back and get back to the basics. I'd agree the progressing isn't what you'd be looking for after 5 years - but you're at least you're fit and healthy.

There are a LOT of people here with fantastic knowledge and some offer PT. Post up your honest diet and training and see what help you get. From there maybe take it a level and look at a good PT - someone who will push you and aid your development, not just cheer you on when you get on the x-trainer.

Don't feel sorry for yourself. Get back in the gym and do something about it.

Re: Should i continue bodybuilding?

if i am honest your progress has been slow but to answer your question about giving up bodybuilding then i would say no....

something has gone amiss along the way your perception of training or clean eating is a little fuzzy....

Write down your diet and training program if you don't want to do it on the forum send it to me via PM and i will see how i can help you make a big step forward in your bodybuilding goals....

I will say that i have been training for 18yrs and only just in the last 4-5 yrs achieved what i consider a decent physique i didn't give up as i see it as a long term challenge Bodybuilding is a way of life no matter where you go with it.....stick with it mate...

I trained on and off for two years, for three years (or even 4 years) i dedicated myself 100% to training and eating the right diet ect...

I actually LIKE training, if i didnt i wouldnt have done it for all these years. I do it because i still have hope that maybe one day i will get the body i strive for.

My diet (I'll be completely honest):

8:30 am: 3 eggs, 3 slices of whole meal bread, protein shake.

10:30am: Peanut butter sandwhich with wholemeal bread. Banana, kiwi fruit, protein shake.

12:30pm: Two cans of tuna, 1 large potato

3:00pm: Chicken with rice

6:00pm: Either steak/chicken/beef with pasta

8:00pm: protein shake

10:30pm: 5 weetbix with milk

I snack on nuts during the day, take a multivitamen and creatine.

Guys, with each meal i eat as much as i can until i can't eat no more.

not the worst diet i must admit.... could do with improvements ... but who's diet doesn't!

Can you also post your training routine as well! coz the problem may lie there!

Re: Should i continue bodybuilding?

As shorty said, the diet isn't too bad at all. The only glaring issue I can see is that you don't appear to have carbs directly after working out. I assume your PWO shake is at 20:00? Lack of veg as with a lot of people however. Why not have a casein shake before bed and drop the one at breakfast in favour of more egg whites - if you feel the need to increase protein.

If that is what you are eating then I'd take a look at your training. Do you have a training partner?

Right now im doing a routine similar to bigs "how to get big" routine. For the past year ive only been training with compound movements. My weights just dont seem to go up. I normally train two to three times a week.

My routine right now:

Monday

Squats x 2
Deadlifts x 2
lunges x2

Thursday

Incline bench press x 2
Chins x 2
Rows x 2
Standing shoulder press x 2

Re: Should i continue bodybuilding?

What reps are you getting out of those lifts?

If the weight isn't going up you need to change things around.

Usually between 5-7 reps.

Whenever i try to add weight to the bar i just end up doing less reps. Believe me i push myself hard everytime i go to the gym. Much harder then the other guys there.

I'll train for 8-12 weeks, take a 1 week break. Then when i get back on im weaker then before and it takes me another 12 weeks to get that strength back. Ive been benching 60 kg's now for over a year.

I also train before my meal at 6:00pm so i am getting carbs post workout.

Re: Should i continue bodybuilding?

1st thing that hit me is thats not enough, now i know that this is Bigs "how to grow routine" or silimar and that lots of rest with heavy compound exercises and plenty of good food will in time show results!!! but it wont nessesarly work for everyone... (the routine that is)

i'd be more inclined to stick with 3 day split with 1 or 2 sets warm up in the 6-10 rep range and 1 working set to failure.

again this may not work for you.... but if that routine hasn't given you any gains then change it around!!!

along with a few tweeks in the diet... maybe you will see some better gains!

i.e up the cals, more carbs and good fats!!

Re: Should i continue bodybuilding?

TBH mate if you are only lifting 60kg bench after 5 years training, tehre is something seriously wrong in my mind.

Where are you from and maybe someone can train with you. No matter what you weigh / look liker I would expect to have you past 60kg in WELL under 6 months.

Something is not right here.

As for giving up.........................that is a personal choice, if you enjoy it then dont if not then do.

Dude you need a training partner IMO.;...I used to have a couple of quality guys to train with when I first started seeing results....to bounce ideas off and to push you that 1" or 1kg forward.....

Dont give up dude learn and move onwards and upwards
