MUSCLE BEACH - VENICE

My mate is off the California next week to train at Gold's Gym in Venice Beach. Has anyone been, and able to give him any pointers? Thanks!

Re: MUSCLE BEACH - VENICE

Yeah, don't leave valuables in the car! Venice is not exactly the classiest neighbourhood & tourist BBers are easy to spot, so are rental cars.

The gym istself is ok I suppose, but I found the Golds gyms in Vegas to be soooo much better. Venice is great as it has the history of BBing, but it's not what it once was so don't expect to see the great Bbers hanging around all over the place.

Tell him to go & eat at the Firehouse which is 2 mins walk from the gym. They have a special BBers menu.

Thanks Nine Pack. Which Gold's in Vegas did you go to? I think there are about 5 in the area. Did you also train at Milos' Golds Gym in Fullerton? Do you know if that is worth a visit

Re: MUSCLE BEACH - VENICE

Not entirely sure which Gold's it was geographically, but we were staying at the Hard Rock hotel (which is fcuking awesome by the way, not like a normal vegas hotel) & it was the nearest Golds.

Didn't go to Milos' gym but I met Milos last year in New York when I was squashed between him & Dennis James in a yellow cab. I was there with John H doing the New York Pro show. What a shameless name dropper!

What do you mean 'not like a normal Vegas hotel'?

I thought they were all pretty good?

I stayed at the Mandalay bay and that was awesome, just curious as I dont like $hit hotels.

Lol, that must have been a fun cab ride,

Re: MUSCLE BEACH - VENICE

nah mate - I have seen loads of vids of Golds venice beach. As far as I am aware it has been knocked down and re built twice since the pumping iron days. Sad hey.

Most of the hotels are amazing, I just mean that you don't feel like you're in Vegas, which for me is a good thing as I'm not keen on the place. It's a mile off the strip, well away from all the garish lights & 'flicky flicky' men. Anyone who's been should know what I mean by that!

Anyway back to Golds in venice. It's ridiculously expensive to train there as a non member. I seem to remember it was about $30 for a guest workout! We were in the U.S for a month & joined the local Gold's for a week everywhere we stayed, apart from Venice. They wanted about $150 each for the weeks pass (compared to Gold's in San Diego, $30 for us both to train for a week). Talk about still trading on the 'old days' reputation! Still, it's nice to have been there but I won't be rushing back anytime soon. L.A is not my bag really.

Re: MUSCLE BEACH - VENICE

It's a great shame that the real birthplace of bodybuilding, where all the legends of the golden age trained has declined so much! Anyway my mate is off there on Wednesday for 2 weeks, so we'll see how it goes. :lift:

I'll let you know. He'll have a few good meals at the firehouse no doubt!

I understand what you mean about the hotels.

Last year in Florida I paid $10 per session at a Golds, I did not ask about weekly fees, but I thought that was very reasonable.
