![]() | My MMA update Hiya everyone, I haven't been on here for a while but thought I would update you with what I have been doing. You may remember me starting a thread about martial arts & that I wanted to start something. I choose MMA as a club opened near me whilst the thread was in progress. I haven't done lots of training, about 7 or 8 two of three hour sessions. We did sparing last week (using boxing gloves & head guards) & I was fighting someone with a bit more experience than me for two 2 minute rounds. He started battering me & bust my lip in the first round. I got some good hits in though. With about 20 seconds left in the 2nd round (after getting beaten for about 3 Min's 40 secs) I landed some good punches & made him sort of give in for the first time & has 8 seconds rest, I had to have a couple throughout the 2 rounds as well. Anyway, the next time we were training the coach asked us how we felt about doing an amature fight at the Mr Cumbria competition against some people form Yorkshire I think. I'm unsure whether to do it or not because we aren't sure on the rules yet & it would be with the MMA mitts which would hurt a lot more & could include, knees elbows etc. It would be a great experience but I don't want to get injured lol. What do you all think? My weight training has taken a back seat since starting because I don't have much spare time anymore although I use the weights at the MMA club when I'm not on the bags or grappling occasionally. So thanks to everyone who helped me & gave me advice in my choice.:beer1: James |

He said today about some more amature fights but these one's would be no headshots, so it would be body shots, grappling & submissions which I quite like the sound of.

![]() | Re: My MMA update I think MMA amateur rules are striking to the body only when standing and no striking when on the ground. Submissions and chokes. Train for a bit longer till your comfy with the idea of doing a fight mate. You should be anxious to do it. Loads and loadsa sparring. Magic. :boxing: |

If so I will have a look for it. I know how to do the guillotine well & another one which I dont know the name of. But I only did these standing up & the grappling we did yesterday was on the floor. I learnt the annoconda & another where you get them in a choke & sort of turn in a circular motion & it keeps cruching them more & more but I have forgot how to do both of them :(

You should pop down sometime. Its Wednesday & Friday 4pm til 6pm & Sunday 10am til 1pm I dont train Sundays though because I have work :( You shouldnt get injured doing the bag work etc & I havet really injured myself yet. Apart from after sparing I had a sore neck for a few days & I cut all my knuckles up from punching the bag where the gloves rubbed but I use tape to stop that happening now. My legs are killing my now though after Fridays session after doing lunges etc.

![]() | Re: My MMA update No. I used to go to bernies but I dont go to any now. At the mma place they have a smith machine, leg press, leg curl, leg extensions, pec deck & a maching with a cable coming from the top & bottom. Also they have some dumbells but not very heavy, some barbles up to about 25kg I think & a hammer bar. I use the scaffold stuff that holds the punch bags up for doing chin ups as well. The machines arent great but work ok. I dont use them much though because I'm usually to knackered to do them as well as the MMA. |
