| UK-M Swimsuit model | Modest Car.... Guys (and gals), I need to buy a new car as my GF company car is going back.... I was thinking about going out and getting a nice Audi S4, BMW 330, CLK etc but now I'm thinking about maybe just buying a more modest car outright.... I have about 10k which I was going to use as a deposit and then pay the rest on finance... Now I'm thinking about getting hitched in the next couple of years and buying another house etc etc so I'm thinking about spending the 10k on the car and have no repayments at all thus more to save. I dont want anything too small and I want 1.8+ engine....has anyone got any ideas for a car to fit the bill? Cheers J

Someone will ask you to give your stats and your car history when asking questions like this :p 10k buys you a LOT of car, no need for finance and no need to keep it modest either. Don't buy a new one - let someone else take the main depreciation hit ![]() What budget do you have to run the car? If you have plenty, look at: Subaru WRX STI Mitsubishi Evo 6 Honda S2000 If you don't want the running costs of the above (and/or want something a bit newer, as you'd only get a 7 year old car for your 10k with the above examples), something like: Honda Civic Type R VW Golf GTI Ford Focus ST170 You should be able to pick up a 2003/2004 car of one of the above within your budget. Just IMO, finance on a car is a foolish thing to do. Paying interest on an asset which depreciates is far from sensible, particularly if you're saving towards a house. In fact, if you are serious about getting a house, it may make sense to just buy a cheap runaround car for £1k with low running costs and save the rest towards a house deposit. They aren't cheap you know ![]()

| aka Jimmy | Re: Modest Car.... straight to the point; you can pick up a very nice car with 10k pay it all off mate no finance = more money to save and do other things like marriage/houses etc.

Fook that 1k run about lets not be stupid! The house will be my second, it will be buy to let, prob in london, its going to be my retirment fund My GF gets her car allowance which we would have used for the finance but if we buy the car outright and save that along with some of our own we should get 15-20% deposit somewhere in 2-3 years....well thats the plan ![]()

Small engines are not necessarily more eco friendly, on motorways for example they have to burn more fuel to keep up with the 2-3L cars who just chill at lower revs at the same speed. It's another example of the retard Labour government and knee jerk reaction policies. My 2L BMW is soon to be considred a gas guzzles ffs.
