Computer virus

As the title says, i have somehow manged to get a virus on my laptop which has totally fecked it. The problem is something called Virus Burst i have used spybot and avanti both programmes have picked up the problem but failed to remove it.

Last night when trying to shutdown the computer a message appeared stating that updates were being downloaded and not to turn off the power supply, since this has happened my computer will not open anything it will load up and bring up the desktop but when you click on an icon nothing happens and the computer just crashes on desktop and wont let you shut down.

If anyone can suggest anything i can download and run in safe mode to get rid of it i would be most grateful as ive only had the bloody thing for a week.

Thanks

Re: Computer virus

Kel if you've only had the ting a week, i'd use the recovery disks and rebuild the thing....it could take ages fixing the virus etc....any files you have on it are they backed up on an old machine?

Which PC is it mate? Some have recovery partions, others use disks. But simply if its disks, put the disk in, reboot and it will reload from the disk a fresh install. It sould put it back to how you bought it. Make sure going forward you have an external Hard drive (the buffalo ones are good as they have an auto managment program that does it for you) that will back up your documents. That way if you ever have a proble you can just reload the programs.

lol ok if you put the disk in and reboot the machine it will fire up and launch the recovery program, this will re-install windows - well it will ask if you want to repair or re-install. It should also ask you to re-format the Hard drive, this will completly remove the whole thing and re-install it.

The external hard drive is for after when its fixed and this will make sure if it happens again you dont lose your work/pictures/music.

Re: Computer virus

Thanks for that Ralphy but i have managed to fix it last night. Jamie thanks very much mate it took me about an hour an a half to do, blasted curry's for not having a restore disk with the laptop only for the kind chap to nicely inform me that its already built into the computer, lmao

Everything working as it should be now and my laptop now has more protection than a sexual health clinic, lol.

Cheers again mate!

Re: Computer virus

Cool, now that you are sorted, i'd invest in one of these:

http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...596&CatId=2267

It will make sure that you back up all of your music, pics and documents if it ever happens again - when you have loads of stuff on it...

This one is sooo easy to use you wont even know its there and it will auto backup everything in 'My Documents' or any other folder you choose. You can also use that Ghost program you have and save the files it creates to the external drive. This will make sure you never lose your stuff!
