COLINSRI has a spectacular aura aboutCOLINSRI has a spectacular aura about
Smiths Machine

Hi Guys,

My 1-Ad cycle is going very well and just have one week left. I have gained about 4.5lbs so i'm happy.

I joined a gym that has a smiths machine. My bench is 15kg more on the smiths than on a standard bench. My pump isn't so great on the smiths.

Do people rate the Smiths machine or should i keep with normal bench?

Cheers muscle heads.

Col

BTW saw 300 the other day. Whats with all the air brushed abs? made me laugh a bit.

Re: Smiths Machine

Your smith machine bench is always going to be more because you are not having to use energy to stabilise the bar ie. stop it from falling to one side.
Get off the smith and go free-weight.

Re: Smiths Machine

i highly rate smith machine pressing (incline) but as a second excercise, first and foremost should be free weight pressing!

Re: Smiths Machine

As above. Use the standard bench as your primary press so you work your stabaliser muscles and your core.

Re: Smiths Machine

I liked the smith machine for bench pressing and squats but one day found it stiff and in need of oiling.

I therefore reluctantly moved to the free weights for these exercises and it immediately felt better. Of course, the weight dropped because I had to employ form other than up and down but the gains were far better.

Personally, I would use the smith machine sparingly for flat press and squates although as coco says, it is good for incline press and seated military raises.

Once you get used to an exercise and feel you can progress onto free weights I would suggest doing so wherever possible.

Smiths are very limited IMO, stick to free weights.....

Re: Smiths Machine

Good to hear your 1-ad is working mate, have to agree with the comments above. Nothing beat free weights, Ihave heard some people using a smith machine to get over a plateau however.

Mate, if your mrs gives you earache just tell her to mind her own fcukin business.....
What I did was do gear for 6 months then said to my mrs I was thinking of trying them. She said well, they'll make you all more aggressive, d1ck small etc etc, the usual and I replied I'd been on them 6 months to which she said, oh well then, no worries...

Re: Smiths Machine

I rate the smith, but if you're just starting out stick more with the free weights..always a risk on the smith you'll push more with the dominants side of your body and so that will get more growth ultimately..
