![]() ![]() | Smiths Machine Hi Guys, My 1-Ad cycle is going very well and just have one week left. I have gained about 4.5lbs so i'm happy. I joined a gym that has a smiths machine. My bench is 15kg more on the smiths than on a standard bench. My pump isn't so great on the smiths. Do people rate the Smiths machine or should i keep with normal bench? Cheers muscle heads. Col BTW saw 300 the other day. Whats with all the air brushed abs? made me laugh a bit. ![]()

Get off the smith and go free-weight.

I therefore reluctantly moved to the free weights for these exercises and it immediately felt better. Of course, the weight dropped because I had to employ form other than up and down but the gains were far better. Personally, I would use the smith machine sparingly for flat press and squates although as coco says, it is good for incline press and seated military raises. Once you get used to an exercise and feel you can progress onto free weights I would suggest doing so wherever possible.

Nothing beat free weights, Ihave heard some people using a smith machine to get over a plateau however.

![]() | Re: Smiths Machine I rate the smith, but if you're just starting out stick more with the free weights..always a risk on the smith you'll push more with the dominants side of your body and so that will get more growth ultimately.. |
