![]() | GYM ETIQUETTE Just a little rant on how people should NOT behave in the gym, these examples and there is many more can usually take the form of some kind of intimidation in the gym. Remember your average joe see's a large bodybuilder and assume hes a steroid munching rough, thick, violent, thug (especially if your a big bald git like me ) of course we are not. We are just normal people prepared to go through a lot of pain and sacrifice to look our best. So why confirm these peoples views by acting in a thuggish way in the gym?.STRUTTING AROUND CARRYING INVISABLE CARPETS Are we on a catwalk? walking like a carpet fitter around the gym doesnt make you look any bigger. BIG GROUPS OF 3 OR MORE why do you need to huddle together on one machiene/equipment? you spend too long in between sets when there is too many of you, and you end up hogging it for too long. Less of the of the chin wagging about how many people you knocked out on the weekend and get on with the training. SLAMMING/DROPPING WEIGHTS if you want to make that type of noise then join a brass band, if you cant lift it put it back down yourself then lower the amount of weight. Or do you want everyone in the building to know just how big the dumbells are you have just lifted by dropping them on the floor? Trust me no-one will be impressed. SHOUTING/SCREAMING DURING SESSION this can also take the form of shouting swahelli(or simillar languages) during a lift. The louder you shout does not equal the harder you train, it just means you shout a lot. Train hard intense and quiet. INTIMIDATING OTHER (USUALLY SMALLER) PEOPLE OFF EQUIPMENT One word BULLYING. Every one has a right to use the equipment. SHADOW BOXING IN THE MIRROR BETWEEN SETS???? Oh dear! what are you doing? Train hard, intense, quietly and respect others in the gym!! |

Impractical IMO but its upto the individual. To some people the jewellery may mean something? When i met Pscarb i think i remember him wearing a necklace with a ring on (which ya can see in his pics) presumably the ring means summat?I know people that think people training whilst wearing a vest is gay, im not going to lie, unfortunately im not huge but i train in a vest...and im not a poser, i do it because i feel more comfy! Dont have to worry about sleeves and i dont get hot. Same as shorts, im not very comfortable with my legs but wear shorts because i get hot and because i find trousers get caught up...but again you find people thinking people training in vests and shorts love themselves!:jerk: What people wear shouldnt have any affect on anyone, nor how they walk...but the weight dropping and things like that p1ss me off!! Especially like the otherday i get asked my manager to tighten up all the dumbells..as im doing it i got these 2 men training together using like 24's for incline d'bell presses..they were both straight into gym, 1st exercise n were getting each other to do forced reps? They did like 3 sets each of 12 reps and needed help on every rep! Then after every bloody set dropped the weight! In the end my fitness manager went and told them they can take over what im doing or leave unless they put the weights down.

Most of the above ones affect you (except shadow boxing) if they are dressed like Mr T and it makes them feel good then let it be Impractical IMO but its upto the individual. You train in what you feel comfortable, vest, shorts whatever is you! ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: GYM ETIQUETTE Baldgit, I do hear what your saying though but i've learnt to just ignore and block out all the kn0bs you seem to get in EVERY gym. When I go to the gym I couldnt give a monkeys what anyone else is wearing or doing for that matter! As long as someone is not hogging the equipment and the dumbells are put back on the rack, im good to go! Me watching 2 men training together "using like 24's for incline d'bell presses....getting each other to do forced reps....3 sets each of 12 reps" would not interest me in any way shape or form. In fact would increase rest time between my sets and decrease the intensity of my own workout. Haven't got the time or energy to worry about what others are doing, just get on with my own training.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: GYM ETIQUETTE As above. Unless people are unequivically infringing on your workout, why bother worrying about it. You're the one that gets wound up by it, they're completely unaware you feel like that. I know people do strange things at times, but by making them wrong in your mind, the only person who suffers is you. I'd say if someone bothers you in the gym by their actions/inactions, talk to them about it. And if you don't want to talk to them about it, then decide it's not worh worrying about. |

Firstly damaging the dumbells (whilst seeing me tighten them because of exactly the same reason) secondly, disrupting others from their workout - and i didnt realise just how much it does but i saw everyone keep turning around when they heard the thud and then roll their eyes and go back and thirdly they damage the flooring/mats! EDIT: People, please read the posts properly before just skimming through it and finding bits too criticise! The thread is about gym etiquette and things that shouldnt be done in the gym, not how we are getting 'worried' about what others are doing.

I hate it when people dont put back the dumbells! Its like a ****ing minefield when trying to workout. I always put them back. |

Like when they squat, they liturally go down an inch and back up ![]() Or there shoulder shrugs are more like dead lifts ![]()
