I use the sunbed at the gym I go to (Fitness First) and they have some really good offers, such as £35 for 150 minutes.

I used to feel embarassed about using them, but I couldn't care less anymore - there are loads of blokes use them.

Sunbeds used to have only UVA I think, which is deemed to be safer than UVB. However, UVA is not very effective at producing a long-lasting tan. (I think UVB causes the melanocytes in the skin to produce melanin and UVA oxidises it, turning it brown.)
So, sunbeds now have a very similar composition to the sun (both UVA & UVB), and you are increasing your risk of getting basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma by using them.

Unless you burn though, you're probably not increasing the risk of getting malignant melanoma, which is the most dangerous type.

By the way, I wouldn't bother using any sun cream (apart from possibly putting on moles or somthing). There should be no need, as the 'dose' of UV is already controlled.

take it from someone that lives in the sun and knows about this....sunbeds are alot more harmful then the sun......anything that can tan and/or burn your skin with any type of light rays is harmful no matter how you look at it...but the natural rays of the sun are the best way to go about this.....unless you use tanning lotions...

I am well aware of the risks associated with sunbeds but I'm not planning on going every day, I just want to look a little darker.

I have used them when I went to Hawaii every year. First year burned to a crisp. Second year used a sun bed. I started to tan a month before. Start light, then build up.

You can't say that sun beds won't increase your risk of getting skin cancer, but then breathing the air in London will do the same on your lungs. You can't steer clear of everything which may potentially harm you or you will never do anything.

thats my humble opinion anyway.

bro, sunbeds are alot worse then breathing in london...you ever tried breathing in LA? and sunbeds are worse for you then a smoggy day in los angeles...

if you need to tan use the sun or use a lotion..if you must use a sunbed go for it....but it's not the safest thing to do to your body.......miami is just about the skin cancer capitol of the USA and they tell you all the time here the sun is safer then the sunbeds since everyone went sunbed crazy when they came out..thinking theyre safer then the sun..now all you hear about is how bad they are.......

have u ever been stuck in the centre of London with all the traffic...i think breathing in all that carbon monoxide, etc. is far worse than using sun beds in moderation.
