![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | JJB Gyms Is anyone a member of a JJB gym? If so, what do you think of it? I've been a member of Fitness First for a few years, but recently, JJB gyms have started popping up all around me. I went and had a look and their facilities seem much better than Fitness First's - significantly bigger free weights area, more machines and something you stand on that vibrates you until your bollocks drop off (or something along those lines). I'd like some opinions of people who've joined though before I take the plunge. Oh, and I know they'll have no sawdust on the floors and they'd frown at people spitting, but I don't mind - I like my poncy gyms. :rolleye11

Anyway your choice bud its your money....id stick to where your comfortable working out!!!

As long as you can progress there, then its a viable place to train. Spit and sawdust gyms are becoming few and far between...

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: JJB Gyms i train at jjb, and its pretty good. got everything you need plenty free weights, squat rack etc. plenty dumbells but only go to 50kg which is a bit pish, plus at peak times it can get busy, suits me coz i train earlier though. some decent machines too and the opening hours are good, monthly membership is about £32, which i think is cheap. |

The only reason you like the big commercial places is to look at/chase tail while you're there. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that, but if you are training seriously, you need somewhere with a more purposeful atmosphere. The big chains are too 'clinical' & lack the work ethic needed to really get into focus. I'll be opening my place soon & hope to meld elements of the two & have a really nice place, but one that is there for a real purpose, not just to look good. It's being targeted at normal gym users, but the quality of the advice & help on offer will eclipse those big clubs ten fold. Enough of my blatant self promotion.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: JJB Gyms nine pack, unfortunatley a lot of people dont have much in the way of choice, where i stay there are a couple of gyms but the are pretty much all the same, they are buisnesses so therefore have to make money hence the reason they are marketed to the general public rather than bb's. i stay focused throughout my workout pretty easily, maybe because the place is much quitier when i train. i think if there was somewhere a bit more serious then i would train there, however ther isnt so at present im stuck, but not unhappy. good luck with your place btw. |

It costs me £70 a month for gym membership but then I dont go out drinking and bbing is my life so I think its money well spent. I only need the 60kg+ dumbells on Back or Chest day so any other time I can train at other gyms. Its good to have different training places as this continually varies the stimulus on the body so the muscles are continually worked from different angles. I used to change my gym every 6 months but now I have a bit more money and better transport I can afford to have multiple memberships. When I open my own gym which I will in the next few years its going to be mor ein line with the Powerhouse type gyms in the US. If any of you have seen Bev Francis gym in any of the BFTO vids then you'll know its possible to blend all aspects of training well. Everytime I see that gym I have a little twitch. Awesome.

or no showers for people to p1ss in!! Nine - that sounds good about your gym. Pity it is not in the Birmingham area!!! There are two good spit and sawdust in my area (north b'ham). As the post above says, these types of gyms are becoming few and far between.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: JJB Gyms I personally dont think spit and sawdust gyms are "becoming few and far between", I juts think that more and more of the "fitness" type gyms are popping up everywhere! Within a 25 min drive from where I live, I have a choice of four "bodybuilding type gyms". However, within the same radius there are probably 15 fitness type gyms. I used to train at a Holmes Place for free because my girlfriend used to PT there. It was okay, just about enough training equipment to get by. When she left, I was asked to pay £75 a month membership, no bloody way am I paying that sort of money for them to heat a swimming pool, maintain saunas, jacuzzis and all that other poncy equipment. I now pay less than half what H.Place charge for a much wider variety of training equipment. I will never train in a fitness gym again, unless of course I have no alternative.

As with the Powerhouse type gym, I'm going for a fairly upmarket experience, but with the emphasis on proper training, real, tangible results & not just milking people for all they are worth. Leeston, Did I forget to say that I expect everyone to move to Manchester immediately & join my place? :smoke: Not an unreasonable request.;)

My second choice would be the Bredbury area but I have a site in Altrincham that I am looking at so fingers crossed. I only live down the road from you in Chadderton but I need the gym where the surrounding area is most affluent.

![]() ![]() | Re: JJB Gyms Be careful with that mate. You might be surprised how people find the money in poorer areas. EG. As I mentioned I have a Salon In Droylsden. My GF used to work in one in Openshaw very poor area... they took double what we do though!!! It's funny but people in these area's because they do not have money become very vein... they buy lots of gold!!! They always have a tan and always have nails done as standered along with other treatments. I have spoken to owners in rich areas and they shut some days as there is no custom!!! the reason is these people are not as materialist as they can have anything so they want it less. They have nothing to prove so the are not too bothered so don't get layered in gold and diamonds to the same extent, they don't feel they have to have nails on or get there eyebrows done. If they want a tan they fly somewhere hot. As you can see the rich areas might have more disposable income but they don't always spend it. Not saying you have not considered this already or anything you know your market but poorer areas "find" the money to spend. When I was looking at the Golds franchise the best way was attrct lots of members via cheap prices and good equipment. The amount of memberships you have gets more ppl through the door so you get more secondery spends. The good members will benifit from the equipment quality and the occasional members will still keep there monthly direct debete as it's cheap and the always intend on getting back into it. That's my take mate. Let me know when you setting up, I will come down and help you shift sh!t if you want... I'd love to get an insight into the gym as a business I've only ever been a customer. I'm doing a futurefit course now so I can give myself summat to do through the day as I never need to be on site at the salon. |
