combination skin

dry skin
flaky and can feel tight because there is not enough moisture or oil in the skin

problem prone skin
Usually peopele have oily skin so this will mean they get more spots and comedones(blackheads and whiteheads) because the sebum, which is what the oil is called, accumulates and causes the problems.

sensitive skin
skin reacts to products that have fragrences in and other ingredients. Menas the skin gets red and blotchy.

Also if i go for MD formulations which other things do you reccomend as there seems to be alot of different things in their range?

I would just get a facewash when you work out your skin type. Get some UV/sun protection factor 15 will be good enough but make sure its the MD brand one because it is different from normal sun creams. You will need this because of the strong ingredients in the products so don't think you don't really need it even when its in winter.
When you figure out your skin type i'll take another look at the products to see what I think and then you can see what you reckon. On the site you will see the CORRECT products under the CLEANSE options so you will probably need one type of these aswell. 3 products I would say will be enough and if you feel you need others later on you an always add them. You don't want to bombard your skin with lots of things at once. Also you will need to use the wash for about 2 weeks before using the CORRECT products so your skin will adapt first.

Like you sais aswell ask your Mum about your skin type because women are usually more clued up on these things.
cheers
james
I'm sure we will come up with a good plan of action.

Re: How to get rid of spots...

From the sounds of that mate i have a combination skin.

The Benzol Proxide (sp) is a cream type that i have got if it makes any difference with the other things.

Do you think that these products will be a good aid with the things i have been prescribed?

Re: How to get rid of spots...

Have you been described something yet? if so what?
The BP can be quite harsh on the skin in my experience and often causes redness where applied. It can help to get rid of spots but it does not really do your skin great benefits in the long run. It does help to reduce inflamation and dry up spots. stubborn acne though always seems to come back even when you get rid of a few spots more seem to appear. Its also supposed to get rid of blackheads aswell but mine always still come back when I used it. I'd still recommend a proper skin care regime because it will help to prevent spots and blackheads in the first place. You need a good regime of products that are non-comedeogenic which means they don't block pores in the first place.
Blocked pores=blackheads,whiteheads=spots.

If you are thinking of getting the products we talked about then I wouldn't use the BP with them, at first anyway.
If you decide to just use BP then only use a bit, less is more trust me, you don't want your skin drying up too much and flaking. Watch you don't get it on your hair or clothes, towels, etc because it bleaches them. the amount of towels I ruined back in the day

It warns about it bleaching your hair & clothes etc.

This is what i was prescribed....

Benzol Proxide (4%)

& some

Zineryt

He sain use the Benzol to open the pours & then about an hour later use the Zineryt to help kill the bacteria inside the spot.

In Patrick Holfords Optimum Nutrition Bible it recommends:

A good foundational diet and....
take:
2x multivitamin + minerals
2x anti oxidant
2x vit c 1000mg
Niacin 30mg for 30 days to flush and cleanse skin
zinc 15mg
vit e 400mg to heal skin
plus use topical vitamin A cream

Much better than all those chemicals dont you think?

yeah I was given them aswell as I remeber. You could always try these if you like for a month to see how it goes before using other things. Personally they did me no good. They do work for some people though. You say your skin is not excessively oily so these may work better for you thanthey ever did for me because it was the excessive sebum on my skin that use to block my pores and give me the constant acne. Just decide on your action and stick with it for at least a month before you think its no good. Obviously like a few guys have said a good cleant diet will help more in any healing process but you also need to treat the skin from the outside and this is the most important i my opinion and experience. Good luck and please keep us informed of your progress.

Re: How to get rid of spots...

I see many posts like these, but no one ever seems to recommed using the Sauna. These are absolutely brilliant mate. They open up your pores, all the sh** comes out then you can get in a luke warm shower and wash it all off and close up the pores. Then get back in the sauna and repeat the process a few more times. If your fortunate enough that your gym has a cold water plunge pool then use that (makes it much more fun! )

Hope this helps matey.

Re: How to get rid of spots...

I dont think my local leisure centres allow under 16's in the saunas so i cant go in them yet.

About the water & diets etc...

I always thought these effected acne & spots but i was reading some printouts the doctore gave me of his database thing & it said this in one of them...

Some myths & wrongle held belifes about acne

Acne isnt caused by poor hygene. In fact excessive washing may aggrevate acne & make it worse.

Diet has little or no effect on acne. There is no evidence that chocolate, sweets or fatty foods cause acne or make it worse.

Stress does not cause acne.

Acne cannot be cured by drinking lots of water.

There is no evidence to say that sunbathing or sunbeds will help to clear acne.

Also i think i will give the products a go for a few weeks & if there is no sign of improvement get some MD formulations products.

I have had the benzol proxide & zineryt on for a few hours & it hasnt dryed my skin out loads like my sister said happened to her. is this good or bad?

cheers
james

Re: How to get rid of spots...

Well you don't want it to dry your skin out too much so its ok. Usually though it ill take longer to notice if your skin will dry out. You'll be better to know in a couple of weeks. Just don't use too much.

Re: How to get rid of spots...

go for roacutane, trust me its the only thing that definatly works.

Contrary to beleif its not very harsh on the body. They say it can provide side efects such as liver damage, blindness and a whole load of other crap. Just take a look at any over the counter meds and look at the possible side effects, they will name a whole load of POSSIBLE side effects. It just covers there back.

Megatron, acne isn't necessarily down to dirty pores etc like you said 99% of the times its hormonal, so if your using gear it can and is more than likely the cause of it.

I personally used roacutane for several years on and off, I suffered bad with facial and body ance. I tried all other meds and cleansing scubs etc with none of them working.
Acutane work on the sebacious glands by reducing the size of them. If you want a temperary fix you can try antibiotics, scrubs etc but the likelyhood is the acne will come back where as acutane is a permanant fix.

Re: How to get rid of spots...

Have to disagree totally with that Ellis. Roaccutane did not work at all for me and in fact made my skin worse. I developed red scarring which took years to go and even now it is still not the same as my normal skin. It also had no permanent affect on my sebaceous glands, or temporary affects for that matter. And it can be very harsh on the body with permanebt side effects. Just depends on the person, luckily it suits you but many it don't. Also I think it is better as a last resort and is dished out by Docs far too easily. Another think about Roaccutane is that you have to be very careful what you do to your skin whilst taking it and for probably a year after coming off it because it can leave the skin vunerable to damage more easily.

yeah, it can have serious side effects. varies from person to person. i only get dry lips and slightly dry skin in some areas. i'd say try it, before you are put off otherwise you will never know and it might be the one thing that clears it up!
