Any PC virus specialists? Need urgent help :-(
I have a Sony vaio and am self employed and NEED it for work.
Seems I have a virus (not covered under warranty) and it will only open in safe mode - not even safe mode with networking. I can't open my antivirus or system restore etc.
Anyone got any advice? Am in Edinburgh......

have you got all your files backed up ? if so may be best to just reboot windows on it

try running malwarebytes full scan in safe mode.
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak

This.
If you can't get on a web browser in safe mode download to a USB stick on another PC and run the installer on the laptop. Let it run through, usually takes about 2 hours roughly and should clear a lot of malicious files that may be lurking on there.

have you tried a system restore in safe mode, i have done this a few times before i installed an anti virus and it has worked for me.
although it does depend on the virus.
**edit: scratch the system restore, i just saw you said you cant do it in your op.

Hello Zara,
I am guessing you cant get networking to work so you cant download Malware Bytes (just thinking)
You can try putting MalwareBytes on a USB and moving it over (note to format, wipe and scan the usb before reusing)
I feel that your best solution if MalwareBytes doesnt work is to create a bootable disk using:
http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses...?qid=208282173
Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 is designed to scan, disinfect and restore infected operating systems. It should be used when it is impossible to boot the operating system.
You will have to use another computer to create this rescue disk, or create a bootable USB.
Burn to a Disk - http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolso...urnisofile.htm
Burn to a USB - http://www.ideologics.co.uk/computer...from-iso-image
Hope this helps, MalwareBytes should crack it no problem though.

This is a common problem ,
I've wrote out a long and meaningful diagnostic, just waiting for the moderators to approve it as I'm new and there was a few links etc in there the system will have confused it for spam, so hold tight and nudge the mods, in the meantime
How are your tech skills?

Luke

Can you get safe mode with networking running, what operating system? I can probably help tomorrow if you can. If not some of the other ideas are good but key is do you have your data backed up?

Could someone PM a moderator and point them to this thread, I've wrote how to fix it fully, with all the necessary links, hate to see a problem go unresolved.
