  | Concern over my mate and his car! A mate of mine has seen a car on ebay, massive bargain. They guy selling it has "recently moved back to Hungary and cannot use a right hand drive car over there"! Now, he has suggested that the money be put into some sort of third party account so that when the car is shipped and my mate has had a week or so to test it he can then release the money. My mate has seen an apparently real HPI cert which all checks out. But Im very worried, I have previously seen a car on ebay myself with the same story of "I have just moved abroad, car is with me here, cant use it so thats why its so cheap"!! Can anyone shed any light, anyone heard of a scam like this? I know it sounds dodgy as feck and i dont want my mate to get screwed here so help me out if you can guys! An if anyone is a Police officer or works at a firm that can check reg details for me then pls PM me and I will pass over the reg details. cheers all Kev |

| Re: Concern over my mate and his car! this is what im thinking mate but I know he will be gutted, more gutted if he looses his cash though. could you shed some more light on this scam just so I can give him some more evidence. he has mailed ebay with the details that this bloke has sent him of this supposed third pary company called Safeharbour, I have googled it and cant find any reference to it being what this bloke says, Ebay says all is fine but I know they dont give a **** anyway as there are people getting ripped off on ebay every day. | Re: Concern over my mate and his car! mate someone tried to buy my car using i similar scam,saying they would pay with a third party check,which was 4grand more than the price of the car. and then when the check would of cleared we were surpossed to send the difference to him. they collect the car when the check clears you send the money and they snatch the money back from your account. no car and they end up with the money you sent and the check back.

| Re: Concern over my mate and his car! yeah someone tried to do that to me mate, sent me a 10k cheque for a 5k car! but its my mate thats paying the money into this account, its just I cant find this "safeharbour" company anywhere |

 | Re: Concern over my mate and his car! Get him to email them saying thaqt he will do it but he will choose the Escrow company. See how they react. DO NOT USE and escrow company that they suggest.

| Re: Concern over my mate and his car! just spoke to him again, he tells me that e bay are sending the mmoney to an account in hungary which is this supposed escrow account, would e bay do this? he says they sent him a mail saying all this. i thought the seller would choose the account and the car isnt listed on ebay anymore anyway. im confused too!! |
