the main things they pick up on are incidences involving violence or drugs. should be alright with just a caution though, if your worried just phone the SIA directly & ask.

It depends on what your caution was for as long as it wasn't for violence or anything like that you should be fine. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT PHONE THE SIA they are useless. We had two inspectors??? in the town were I work last week checking badges. There method? A note book, nice to see where our £400 has gone into state of that art technology. They came round with the local licensing police and they looked scared ****less. They didn't have a clue as to what really goes on or what we have to deal with as door staff. Without wishing to sound sexist, they just looked like to secretarys who had drawn the short straw for checking badges.

Best of luck in apply for your badge mate. I predict in when the exisiting badges expire there is going to be a massive shortfall of experienced doorman a myself and many of the lads I know are considering jacking it in, as it's not worth paying out another £190 just to be on the same ****ty wages for another three years, the wages we were promised would go up and they haven't. The violence is getting worse and people know now you are licenesed and take the ****, lay such much as finger on them and they want your badge number or say there going to the police.

LOL, sorry Robsta mate, you and I both share the same feelings as to regards to working the door, from that previous post my a member on here who was upset because the doorman searched him and threw him out.

Borris do you know any of the lads who work the door near you as this is always a good way to get a foot in the door so to speak.

Also and this may sound a bit lame, but you'll find it invaluable buy the book "Bouncers" from Amazon its short stories by doorman about the various situations, the first chapter is titled "The first night" reading it I found myself nodding my head as I shared many of there feelings. It was enlightening to see some real hard cases talking about first night nerves.

Remember this Borris anyone who tells you they weren't scared went it goes off big style is either lying or is a physco and a liability to you and your fellow doormen/women.

Paul.

thats good advice there mate, thanks. but wouldnt you sort of get used to all the agro etc? or does it permantly put the ****es up you? i mean, i have seen guys who are bigger than the bouncers actualy start on them, and it ends up takeing about 5/6 bouncers to get him off. so yeh, i guess the bouncers do **** them selfs from time to time.

Borris, whenever it goes off you WILL feel scared, but it's controlling this fear and your natural instincts is what let's some people do the job and others can't. Size means nothing on the door. I also recommned the book Watch My Back by Geoff Thompson.

Believe me when someone fronts you, inside your guts are churning, your hearts racing, your legs wlll shake, but on the outside you look normal.

You learn to control and in fact harness your flight or fight syndrome.

Paul.

the best thing though when it goes off is you see who's a man of their word......
I took this guy on once who was black belt in this and that, kick boxer etc.....nice guy as it goes, but we had a rugby crowd kick off one night and when it happened he ran off up the road......afterwards he came back and said he went to get some backup from one of my other contracts.......
I put him straight in his place the dirty bottless c*nt, and ****ted him straight in the chops.....
The doors is an easy life,(women etc) but when it goes off, boy does it go, and you need to be able to trust the guy next to you like a brother, and if you can't then f@ck him off and get someone you can....
But remember.....the best doormen talks someone out a pub/club, not throws them out, (unless it's necessary, I think that's how you spell it).........I do miss it tho'

A guy I know has written a couple of books, his name is Robin Barrat, I think he's a member of this forum as it goes.......look his books up " confesions of a doorman" and I think the other one's called " doing the doors"...they are both excellent reads and give a good insight into life on the doors....and if you want them signed then he'll be happy to do it
