I see you go out in Bedford then Rob?! Yeah the whole Eastern European doorman thing has ruined it for me. IMO (no racist) but they do work for less money therefore reduce the calibre person, have no criminal records checks (so could be drug dealers/rapists) and often struggle to speak the language in complicated situations when talking is the best option.

I used to work on the doors, still have my SIA badge (and what a joke that was? It took 6 months to get that cleared) but for £10 or less an hour its hardly worth risking your life. I used to love doing it, there was such a sense of camaraderie between you and the other men you knew you could trust. Now I know a club i worked at is completely run by Polish bouncers now, of which many are not interesting in what is correct or moral, most are interested in how to make extra money by selling drugs or how to shag that drunk girl stumbling down the stairs – yes that happened in my day but at least you could keep everyone in check and sort it out when someone stepped out of line.

The whole criminal record thing is a joke, who would you rather have your back - someone who can handle himself that has worked the doors for years and may have picked a few accounts of assault on the way (which is unavoidable in some places) or someone who has never seen trouble in their lives and you're not even sure if they have a clue what's going on?

As you can see it winds me up …..

One of my good friends is Polish and he works on the door in Bristol, he's a decent guy and hard working. Strong as fcuk as well.

Also there's a few guys in Panache who work behind the bar who I get on well with.

TBH the Polish guys I've come into contact with have been OK and hard working but I do know of others that are scum same with any ethnic group really.

Yes obviously that is true in any walk of life - sorry didn't want to come across as pinpointing and particular ethnicity - just my experience of a particular club

This could have been said about any person where there are language barriers and a lack of understanding of our culture and no availability of criminal records checks.

Yes,BritBB,i see exactly where you're coming from with defending yourself and getting sacked....been there,done that!!
There are so many ****stain managers with a do gooder attitude out there.Most i have worked for have actually owned the business so therefore they know it costs when some prick breaks something on purpose and needs a 'telling' on the way out.
The guy i currently work for is really top drawer,he is **** scared of all manner of violence and anyone doing anything slightly out of 'normal' will be under his watchful eyes(cos he does nothing else!!)and he'll stand there crapping until one of us have taken a look and told him 'its all OK'!!
Been there and done the 'i aint leaving til i've finished me pint' thing.....'ohh right'

This way,there is no blood etc.

As for using armlocks/wrist locks etc......they dont work so well when one is coked up or completely worked up on adrenalin etc....although i haven't gone as far as snapping the arms to see if that works better.
Another problem is,if they have a blade/bottle/glass,they could potentially stab you in the leg or wherever.Also,having trained doing a lot of these movements,if the other person knows what they're doing,they could get out of it.....same with most moves i guess.

Funny thing is,in all the time i have been doing the doors,i have been hit with stuff when dealing with incidents when the coward gives me one from behind with a bottle....luckily didn't break....but never done anything bad to me.Yet one night when i went out a few years ago,me mates got involved in helping a guy being attacked by a gang of about 7 guys even though i said not to.....when my mates were squared up to,i started to go over with a slow jog when i saw out the corner of my eye,a young gal throw something.....yep it hit me from like 20m right on top of the head.....split it like a peach only i didn't realise so have started whacking this gang with blood pouring out my head like some sort of Rambo movie.....poor lads musta crapped themselves.
Had to have 7 stitches in that and the cops got the girl who was crying her eyes out at what she'd done for like 20mins before they came.I dont press charges against no one but i did tell the girl before they came,it was such a stupid thing to do cos it could've taken my eye(s) out then i'd be well and truly fcuked.Hopefully she'd learned her lesson and wont ever do it again.

Anyway,i am rambling on.
