| Banned | Generally yes, but Powerlifters often use a technique where they arch their back. I think it's partly to align the chest in the optimum press position and partly to shorten the distance that the barbell has to travel. ...unless Big Pete's gonna shoot me down about this... ![]() |

Still a cracking lift though. Just holding that weight above you on the bench would be enough for most people :p |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | timmy, 'leg drive' is hard to explain! with your feet planted on the floor, and almost under your **** (the strain on your quads should be pretty huge) you can create an arch in your back, just remember to keep your bum and shoulders pinned. when taking the strain of the bar down to your chest you can relax your glutes/hams/quads, then just as you press the bar tense those muscles (aslong as timing is correct) you get more power off the chest! the chap i train with describes the bench as a 'squat lying down' which, when it all works together isnt far off nytol could possibly describe it better, but thats the only way i can describe it ![]() Last edited by big pete; 20-09-2006 at 02:04 PM. |
