I think so too, I'd say because their men at home treat them rough and THEN they come to this country and people expect they're whores and whatnot. It's usually the case that people who are treated harshly end up being harsh with other people. I'd be a bit aggressive in their shoes as well.

My bro's GF is Hungarian and she is lovely, and no 'whore' and so is her family, no battered wives there, she came over here to work and she met my brother. He has been over there numerous times and he said all the ppl are friendly....

But I didn't say "wifebeaters", you did. I said "Who treat them roughly" OWTTE, which is not the same as "Who rough them up". Anyway, come one, a couple of split lips or marks isn't wifebeating proper, for that you need a good few black eyes and trips to the hospital, what the sociology people call "repeated patterns of abuse".

Incidentally, I have had extensive dealings with persons and organisations from the former USSR, I'm just relaying what I've heard from sources who didn't know each other. Hungary/Czechoslavakia are somewhat different cultures to Poland/USSR.

Tatyana is of Slavic origin, she'll be able to shed more light on the matter either way, perhaps.

One of the best ways to reply to those kind of posts is to not reply at all since usually the one who states it is not looking for anything but an argument not a discussion.
Sometimes a person who states such things is hurting deeply with something totally irrelevant to the statement but the statement is a trigger for the pain to be released safely.
Sometimes it is a style of debate to speak the horror so emotionally as to stir up action and debate. It is not a personal view but is the taking of the unpopular stance to ellicit discussion. Usually though if this is not recognized as a debate style but seen as a personal view, it then becomes a mudslinging fest attacking a person instead of the issue.

To reply with a soft answer is another way and may be better than actually ignoring.
A soft answer leaves the angry person no verbal retaliation that can hurt the one giving the soft answer.
It is a timeless proverb to live by. "A soft answer turns away wrath."

It drives anyone who wants to stir the pot absolutely bonkers when you don't respond in a defensive manner to give the offense more ammo.
Another good proverb to remember. "Do not supply the fire with oxygen. It will extinquish itself."

Please lets not stir the pot here.
We all say generalizations about different groups of people be it heritage, economic or regional.
Words are only true when you believe it and act on it.
If you don't believe it then the generalization should have no meaning or affect on you to control you.
To get defensive does no good but cause more possible animostity instead of brotherhood and understanding.

It takes the better man and woman to not let those generalizations get under our skin. Better to discuss anything without emotional words that may be taken incorrectly, or better still, if there is no soft response to give then have no response at all on the board, or redirect your post back to the original post which was "where to have a stag party".

There are abusive men everywhere. Some countries may seem to have more abusive men because of perceptions and realities passed on by those who have seen it in their own cultural groups and experience. KS has talked to some of these people and is expressing what they have told him and what the view of a part of society is about what is abusive and what is not.

I do know that I will also state views that are not necessarily mine but are nevertheless other viewpoints not mentioned simply to discuss the full range of information about any subject. I do that not to stir the pot but to just think of things not thought of in the past.
Why do we assume to take everything written as personal?

If abuse is all you see in your social experience then you will think the whole world is that way until you go outside of your social experience to see that there are other possibilities of behavior. If your social group says you must wear frog poop on your face to be beautiful then that is what you expect and think is beautiful. If you live in a societal group where abuse is prevalent and grow up with it, you may not know anything else and so in relating it to any others you will generalize.

I'm not upset Peg i'm an honest guy, if I feel a certain way or think something I'll say it.

I think KS tried to play down what he wrote by way of some humour, just not my cup of tea on either post. No hard feelings, you cant make ppl think different to the way they do its just the way ppl are...hell its what makes the world go round.

There are some guys and gals on the board who I have met face to face and I can take things they say on here with a pinch of salt, cause I know they are playing and thats cool. I havent met KS and I dont know what he is like, honestly I dont think I want too, but hey no love lost.
