Another Thread About Bouncers

First of all, i would like to thank every single one of you who replied to Carlos's Thread sayin you should just put your hands up.

Heres my rant, with a few questions thrown in.

First of all i'll just say what happened..

I was sat at a table, a girl sat on my knee talkin' to me.. Bouncer approaches me..

Bouncer(s) "Are you alright mate, been on anything tonight?"
Me "What? No.."
Bouncer(s) "Come with me i wanna search you"
Me *Raises hands in surrender* "Do it here"
Bouncer(s) "No, your commin' with me.."
Me "Ok"

I walk down the stairs to the front entrance of the club. 5 Bouncers surround me.. All of them searching me.. Make me take off my socks and i feel violated and humiliated as i've done nothing wrong and i was trying to sort out an arguement with a girl i like.

They all **** off.. but one stays
Bouncer(s) "Do you know why we did this?"
Me "No.. Why?"
Bouncer(s) "We've been told your sellin' drugs"
Me "Well i don't wheres the girl i was with?"
Bouncer(s) "Shes bein searched"
Me "Thats out of order.. fair enough me.. becuase you've been told i'm sellin them but why her? thats just out of order.."
Bouncer(s) "You have a problem?"
Me "Yea.. Its out of order.. Can i have your managers number.. Im ringing it tomorrow"
Bouncer(s) "Ok your not commin' back in"
Me "What about the girl?"
Bouncer(s) "She'll be out shortly after shes been searched"
Me "Ok"

Well then.. i get a SMS saying "Where are you? I'm back upstairs"

So i think fair enough i'll wait.. After chattin' for about 2 hours to a bouncer about wages and what not they come out.. (my friends)

Friend(s) "They didn't let you back in becuase you was going to complain"

In the end.. I felt violated, intimidated, and ****ed off.. Over an accusation, Fair enough they have to act upon **** like this.. But the way they did it wasn't right..

Standing at the door for the 2 hours, they was chuckin people out who was victims of GBH, I saw one guy with blood pourin out his mouth sayin "someone just hit me from the side" and they said well your out of here becuase we don't know who hit you..

I'm just curious of what powers bouncers have, what they can and can't do etc.

1. There should have been 1 person searching with at least one witness, 2 or more people searching and you could call that a mugging.
2. You do not have to comply with a search you can opt to leave
3. Girls mainly carry the drugs for dealers which is why they searched your girl.
4. You can complain to the manager but he will rarely overturn a doormans decision as they act on his behalf
5. No-one can demand a doormans number except the police or representative of the SIA.
6. It's best not to argue with a group of doorman about seeing the manager as they will just kick you out and say you were dealing etc. Better to go back in the club and then see a manager.


Sounds a bit meatheaded apporach to me but you never know how a person will act so its wise to have 2 or more guys with you when searching someone.

Looks like you went to a ravey type club, a minority of doorstaff run the drugs in these types of clubs so you could have been pointed out by a known dealer trying to get them off their scent?

Mate you cant be searched unless you give your conscent - which by the sounds of it you did.
As soon as you start getting arsy (which beleive me after a long night arsy can be construed as a cross word) they will chuck you out - its no skin off their nose.
If they get a complaint about someone selling drugs you have to act upon it.
You could have refused to have been searched, at which point they may have just chucked you out or they may have called the police to come and search you.
As for them chucking out poeple who have been hit - well this is common - people tend to lie alot so instead of spending most of your night trying to find the offender and finding the truth best just get rid of em both. A bit harsh but you dont want to let someone whos been hit back into to start another fight.

I'm just ****ed off that they searched me and they wouldn't let me back in after they found nothing..

To be honest i do think the doorstaff were sellin' drugs as i stayed at the doors waiting for my friends a car pulled up..

Bouncer - 1 "Have you got enough?"
Bouncer - 2 "Yea.. be a sec"

Bouncer 2 ran up to the car..

They didn't give me the option to leave without being searched..

I'm with Ironman and Tom, being a doorman myself. At the end of the day we don't know you all we know, is what we've been informed. So if someone has told us your selling drugs then we'll ask to search you.

Strictly speaking they A: Have to have a notice up saying they operate a search policy or it's classed as assualt. IF they lay a hand on you. This is rare though.

B: You should be asked "Do you object to being searched?" At which you can decline, we can then ask you to leave and WITHOUT giving a reason. If you agreed to go downstairs, hence you gave consent....of a sorts.


Understand this mate, we deal with all kinds of knobheads and pricks with attitude on a nightly basis and as Ironman said you can only be civil to so many people. Asking for the managers numbers is not clever, as it just ****es us off. The job is hard enough with all the new regulations and people know it and love to test you to see how far they can push you. They are all to quick to ask for your help when it's going off, but when they are in the wrong there the first ones to go running to the police.


Next time put yourself in our shoes...........

I asked for the managers number after they refused to let me back into the club. How you think i feel? i pay money to get in a club.. I've just fallen out with a girl and we are tryin' to talk bout it.. and i get chucked out..

By end of the night i was so ****ed off i told her i didn't wanna talk to her again.. (Big mistake) Now i'm gunna have to spend next few days sucking up..

Sounds here mate that you asked for the managers number before they refused you? Plus if your ****ed and going on like that 10 times out of 10 you will be kicked out.

In your situation you had 3 choices

1) refuse to be searched and be asked to leave
2) comply, get searched, keep quiet and stay
3) comply, get searched, kick off and be kicked out.

Case in point, then you weren't thinking and acting with your rational brain, you were using your emotional brain......hence you reacted the way you did.

As doorsupervisors (not bouncers) we have to deal with people of all types, who are only using their emotional brain, as is the case (once they've sobered up) they come back the next week saying "sorry about that mate I'd had a bit too much too drink"..........

There are knobhead doormen out there but the ones that last are the professionals who behave politely and respectifully towards everyone but can also handle the scruff.

I've been doing it for 7 years and have never been arrested or charged with anything. You can do any job and be a knobhead its just that when people view doormen they normally are doing it through the beer goggles so perception is marred.

you just generalised about door supervisors not having much upstairs ......and i know of two lads on here (not gonna mention names but they already posted on this thread) who use the night work to suppliment their income from what you would call a "normal" job....

i think one of em works in IT and the other a simerlar job......

and both, from my conversations with them, are very intelligent,......this, and my experience with door supervisors in the past proves (to me) that in most cases they are there to protect us from the cock heads with dodgy "e"'s and broken bottles.........

see now i may get flamed and called a bum licker, but probably by someone who's been chucked out of a bar before,.....

i dont drink either and i've never had a bad experince ....coincidence?

I agree with this chump! there are a few doormen out there who think there above the law as i kno a few who litarly kick the Sh!t out of you for nothing and then they all denie it... then theres the lot who are there to do there job and are down to earth decent guys...
