Don't buy a 400, too much like hard work when riding anything without lots of bends.

New 600's are way fast but great fun but out of your price range.

I have a Suzuki GSXR 750 for sale £2700 nice bike and a lot of fun

or

A friend, who is now to ill to ride, has Kawasaki ZXr 600 in blue with 7,000 miles on. Nice bike and would take £2400

I'm not a biker mate, but I would fancy an R6. Stunning machines.

Im gonna be gettin an R6 or GSXR 6 k3 nothing below a 2003 model, as there both kick ass bikes, but from the reviews iv read the gsxr is more a more comfortable ride then the r6 with the same power and its cheaper and a different insurance category then the R6 (cheaper) so i would read up on them befor and go for test drives on both..

Thats the only reason I wanna bike, is to have the new R6

I'm gonna do my CBT soon, then get a 125 for a little while (4-6 weeks) until I have a little road knowledge then I'll do my Direct Access and then R6 :smoke:

To be honest.. this kind of question never gets the right advice...
What you want to hear is that its ok for a beginer to get an R6 or CBR600.. and depending on the mentality of the rider then yeah it is alright... but both those bikes (R6 especially) are heavily track influenced and respond best when bounced off the redline..
Heres some wisdom.. I'll need to lie down after this.. Approach it like you would ya body building. Would you join a gym and start gearing up straight away if that was your goal for the future? Or would you gradually work ya way up, getting familiar with the basics and technique?
When I started riding I went from a Fazer 600 to a Yamaha XJR1300 to Aprilia Tuono 1000, Aprilia RSVR 1000, 2005 R1.. (as seen below )
My new bike (once insure is through) is a KTM Super Duke! wahooo
Good luck with what ever you decide mate..

I have a second hand R1 for sale.. I converted it to a low rider 3 weeks ago..

how about a cbr125, it looks ok, not too dangerous/fast for a first timer and cheaper insurance too.
