![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ripped year round? Hi everyone, So if you check Jame's comp thread, you will see that we had a photoshoot yesterday. One of the super newbie competitors has said she wants to stay ripped all year round. I wanted to do the same, but I was told to smooth over. And I DID! :rolleye11 OH yes I did. So, I get it might be easier for the lads to stay under the 10% ? for abs to show, but I thought unless you have that super high fat burning ectomorph metabolism, staying shredded is not the best plan of action as a bodybuilder, competitive or not. So is it possible? Loads of the girlies say they don't want to put on any more muscle. I know muscle mass is just lost as you age. x x x T |

| Sexy Moderator | It is possible to stay lean year around yes. Dont know at amatuer level, but certainly Jay and Ronnie, etc stay around the 10 - 12% mark off season and look great for it. Some people do need to pile the weight on in order to bulk (Lee Priest!) and some can stay pretty lean while bulking. |

| UK-Muscle Moderator | TBH ive seen real off season pics of the top guys mentioned above ie Jay and Ronnie and they aint ripped. TBH most of the pics you see of them year round are taken not far from comp condtion. They certainly aint fat but they aint as lean as they want you to believe they are. TBH i doubt they eve eat clean when buling because imagine how much clean food you would have to eat to get the calories to gain weight when you 320lbs to start with it would be impossible imo. You can stay lean all the time but its hard and you aint gonnd be gaining much. |

I do believe you can keep a large part of your muscle when you get older. Allot depends on the person, diet and natural genetic disposition. I have seen very old and very stong men in my life that were far older than me. And with assistance, this changes everything. TRT for men now days is common in the states. Ok, back to diet. I remember when I was dieting and lost my weight, when I started to go to maintenance I felt like I was filling out. I think there is anabolism when overfeeding and catabolism when underfeeding. I have friends that are pretty lean all year around and look really good (without a shirt). I do think in summer time you will get a bit leaner and there are reports on men having higher testosterone levels in summer than in winter. The added insulation in winter is probably there for a reason. I dont think it is healthy to be shreaded all year around, lower bodyfat usually compromises the immune system and these guys get sick more often than their heavier counterparts. Also men that have a little extra flab seem to be healthier too.

I hope to start bulking in November (the last day of cutting, oh that GLORIOUS day!), but I don't expect to slam on 30Ibs of muscle without loosening my belt a notch. KS

| Looking Freaky | yeh totally agree keyser but eating clean is the way up.. keeping a strict diet because you cant turn fat into muscle.. therefore its pointless to be eating fvck loads of burgers n stuff when your bulking because yeh its making you bigg but not in a good way. wouldn't you rather bulk on lean muscle then muscle with double the fat? which takes double the time to then burn off. unlike me who can burn out a stone in a week lollll |

I'm going purely on theory here because as a natural bulker I've never bulked deliberately in my life, but I'm pretty sure that your body demands a weekly cheat meal, or even a cheat day when bulking, so it can more efficiently add muscle. KS

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Jay cutler 265 contest weight 310 off season weight which is 45 lb extra in the off season Ronnie coleman competition weight of 296 off-season weight is 330 pounds 34 pounds extra off season. Thats quite alot over - to be 10 - 12 % bf off season, i would say they would be higher than that. |
