I have finally talked the mrs into getting broadband and was wondering if you fine folks could point me in the right direction... also our pc is supposed to be broadband ready with a modem (ethernet 100/1000 or something... as you may be able to tell I am not too pc literate) so do we need another modem from the provider... thanks to all for your help... |

| In london, hmm...try Plus.net www.plus.net I think it is...your ethernet thing isn't a modem, its just a card, like your graphics card, it's basically for LAN (local area network), its a card for connecting several computers to the internet through 1 line, although I doubt you'll need that but it also good for just 1 computer, the 10/100 thing is just the speed rating of the card, which is far far more than you'll ever need, at least for this decade, it's not the speed your modem will run at though , you can connect your broadband modem via that card, alternately you could just use your USB slot. I'm on NTL at the moment, but I'm not happy at all with them, apart from the speed, which is awesome (up to 150kb/s) normal modem is around 5kb/s. Basically most broadbands are the same in terms of speed, but what you want is reliability and customer service. You don't wanna be 2 months into your contract and something goes wrong, you'll be spending a good hour trying to get through over the phone, it's a pain in the ar5e. Personally I haven't had broadband enough to give you the lowdown on them, but plus.net is good in terms of reliability, so I'm told, I'm currently waiting to get connected with them...9th march...bring it on |

![]() | You might not be able to get cable depends on ther area you are in. Same also with ADSL but u probally will. But cos ur in london u should be able to get both try www.adslguide.org .. This will give u a list of ADSL providers and Cable also.. This will also give u ratings for adsl companys, i heard nildram and eclispe are pretty good. You also want to make sure the company that you choose to go with does not make you stay with them for a full 12month contract. I have had this before and you dont want it trust me try get a monthly contract where you are able to disconnect from them within a month. |
