Bit off a selfish attitude - but it makes my job alot harder with the world cup.

Im not a football fan to be honest, the other 7 lads in my office are all into their football and cannot understand why I dont like it or name players lol (no of them can name a bodyduilder apart from arnie though). To be fair I have made an effort to go out with a couple of them a watch a few games (as we all go clubbing together) but we went away and stayed in a b&b so when the game was over it was down to good ole clubbing.....

Oh yes and it does make my nights money a lot harder work :rage:

Nothing selfish about that, its your opinion matey

It's partly the heat too mate, I didn't train at all yesterday, just kept protein high and drowned myself in pints of water!

You have to remember that ours is something of an individualists sport, we bodybuild because, amongst other reasons, we want to set ourselves apart from and above the crowd. This is the complete opposite of Soccer, which is a collective sport, you 'support' a club with your subscriptions and your teams chants in the stands, you wear the costume of your team, there's a uniformity about the whole thing, a 'belonging'.

With bodybuilding you 'belong' to nobody, your successes are all your own, nobody elses. You sometimes find that bodybuilders often don't get along with other people, even each other, you cast off this "I must conform" mentality and separate yourself from the herd. It's rugged individualism at it's very best.

I disagree with this totally - Ive never met an unfriendly bodybuilder yet who wont pass the time of day with me in the gym.
Also I find that on the bbing forums that I visit - there is a certain comradship were we all try to help each other out when possible.
Even in the competitive world there is a respect for each other and a willingness to help each other out.

Yes, hence the "sometimes" qualifier - sometimes there are testy BB'ers who won't share the 25Kg DB set, sometimes there are those who will.

I train at home so thankfully I don't have to compete for equipment, but I miss having a spotter - and in the times when I've trained in an unfamiliar gym and asked for a spot, some guys have agreed to spot me, others clearly had the inclination but not the time, and in some few cases vice-versa.

More than anything else I'm trying to convey the point that bodybuilding is not necessarily an anti-social pursuit, but it is often an unsocial one, you only have a limited time window for an effective workout, so it's best to use that time to build your physique, not to show off your sparkling personality!

I agree with the time window as Im always in bit of a rush - But I always have time for other people - whether it be a spot, or if someone wants to jump in a couple of sets with me or whatever - I guess its just a part of my sparkling personality :-), and this is what Ive experinced with other people who train, I put it down to a mutual respect amoungst bodybuilders.

But If youve had experiences where people wont spot you then I can see where your coming from - its just unfortunate that youve experienced these unsocial bbers.

i like this debate ! its a good one,...so i shall involve myself!...lol!

1st ly , im in the camp that doesnt like football at all, (i would rather watch the fire go out).........

and i must agree with Ironman on the last few points , ....

an example to explain.......

as a bodybuilder,..if your in the street and a guy from a different gym(sporting a t-shirt or vest with the name of the gym on it) walks twards you,

you give a knowing nod, one that says you understand how he got 20 inch arms, and a wide back,....

put two football fans in different shirts in the same scene and you get a different story....

i,m not saying all footy fans are violent but just passionate about "their" corner of the sport,....

bbrs are more like bikers,
wherever you are whatever you ride you'll get a nod from another biker.

wow I find myself agreeing with most of the above.

I like football and have watched nearly every game so far. I think it is a good game and the skill and tactics are great to watch. However, as for using a footy match to get hammerred, fight and pledge blind allegance to the flag is somewhat disturbing.

I like footy and I am english and that is about it. People say you should be proud to be english. I say I am 'glad' to be english and fir having the comforts of a well run democratic country but I would not say I am proud. There is alot which we have to be ashamed of but you never hear of that.

I hope England do well in the WC but if they are knocked out at the end of the stages round I would not be bothered at all. I would prefer to see a good team play and win over my local side (if they were to play bad).

As for the original question, have I slacked - on the contrary. I went to the pub on Saturday afternoon and had three diet cokes. Wow, pushing the boat out or what!!!!!

I was ashamed to see the people shouting after they had had a drink. I think it is really embarrising for them. I will be watching the next England match at home with some tuna and baked potatoe!

i have NEVER seen people fight just over the teams they support- normally they put it down to that but there does tend to be a different reason somewere in it (e.g. my cousin supports liverpool and was beaten up by the police because they thought he was going to fight with man u fans 1 day - he was in a pub the other end from the man u fans and he was planning on staying in there until he was dragged out for being suspected to start a fight)
infact most of the time i've seen fights involving footy fans they have all been supporters of the same team!

stick a few hells angels with a few of the outlaws and you'll see a fight!!! 2 sets of bikers neither likes the other!!

agree with the BBing comments though it does seem to be a comunity of like minded people who do what they want to get what they want out of it and are happy to help others who need it!

Dude, no disrespect - but football violence is rife and goes on for absolutley no other reason than over the teams they support.
Every football team has its hooligans and firms that attend matchs for no other reason than to fight.

If you have never seen people fight just over the teams they support then you are lucky. I have seen it countless times. Ive seen enitire bars get smashed to pieces because of rival 'firms' fighting.

Again no disrespect but inocent people dont get dragged out of bars and beaten up by police when they were simply having a quiet pint. It just doesnt happen mate.
