| Classic Bodybuilder :) | Just found this in a sunday newspaper: "Keen bodybuilder Jamie Wainwright died when a barbell fell on his throat and suffocated him. Dad Andrew found the 24 year-old on the floor after he suffered a fit and battled in vain to save him, a Nottingham Inquest heard. Verdict: Accidental." Page 27, News Of The World, Sunday 30th April 2006. What a sad loss man, poor bugger. Be safe my fellow brothers of iron.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm wondering whether he was using the DB at the time, and if so what exercise he was doing with it, and if not if why the DB fell on his neck. I'm a bit surprised, I would have thought most deaths in the gym are the result of being unspotted on the Benchpress or Squat... My signature doesn't seem such a good idea after this incident.... ![]() ![]() | i feel really bad for the guy. simular thing happened to me on the bench press but i managed to slide it down my chest, abs and off my legs. but surely he could have let one side fall to the floor and lever it off himself? |

Just thinking out loud... not sure if that would work well or not. I do train alone at home.. however I don't think I will be benching weights so heavy that they will choke me. I'm not looking to build that kind of mass. It is a horrible shattering thing to walk into a room and see a family member dead. My heart goes out to the family. |

![]() | just goes to show you how dangerous a gym can be. i know myself i have nearly dropped a heavy dumbell on my face while i was db pressing. if my spotter hadnt been so vigilent that night i may have been seriously injured or even worse. |
