Legal Stuff

All you legal boffs:

Does anyone know how to find out the market median of a job? (how much it should pay)

Its just my job role has recently been changed and i know im being underpaid...

There are a few poeple in the same job on more money already.....

Its a very long complicated story but i need to find some sort of evidence so i can get my money!

The job is in a band classification and i should be on 20k according to this...

They have offered me 17k and say that it is based on the market median...

Thing is there are a few others already in the position on more than 20k....

The Job is "Supply Chain Analyst"..

Is there anything i can do? Any help, legal info etc would be apprechiated!!

Have a look on monster.co.uk or gizajob.com

They have calculators on there showing what you should be earning, depending on your age, location and role.

Oh, and if they have offered you 17K remember, that will prolly be for a trial perioud which will go up after three months, if you are right for it and they like you.

Either way, if you appeal against it, they will prolly not give you the job anyway. There are no laws on wages apart from the "minumum wage" law.

Hell, you could be a head director of your office and if they wanted to they would only pay you 15K.

Allow me to try and help you here:

First of all I work in HR so what I am saying should be taken with a pinch of salt :tongue10:

You could use a salary check like that found at "Totaljobs.com". But, take it from me this "Evidence" you seek will not make one iota of difference to your case. What YOU need to do to get more money from me is show ME why I should pay you more. A few bits of paper saying you could be on X amount elsewhere tells me that you should probably be better off to go there.

Now, I REALLY suggest that you read a book called "How to win friends and influnce people" by Dale Carneigie. This book will show you how to win me over and make me convinced that you are critical to the company (Even more so than the others who already have the higher wage).

Basically the mistake you are making is only thinking about what you need / want. I dont give a toss about that, I am only interested in ME............................So please me and I might give you a rise higher than everyone else.

Good luck mate.

Are you happy with 17k? If yes take the job. If no then dont. Simple.

I'd take the job and if the money dont go up in 3 months as Pauly G said, then look for another one. you'll still have a job and you can leave when you find another one

Just tell them you are not happy with the money, you think you are worth more and you know you could get more elsewhere.

\they will not want to lose you, for starters they will have to pay someone like me at least £3k to replace you not to mention the cost of training etc.

I will dig out some info on wage negotiations for you mate,

Go get it if your think youre worth it

As they hold the cheque book, they make all the rules, but if you are confident you can talk the talk and walk the walk you could accept with some win/win terms for both parties.

Firstly ask for a job profile so you know what you will be directly be accountable for.
Then agree if you wish to the 17k wage to start with but agree that it will be reviewed on a mutually agreed date.

Then ask and help set yourself some S.M.A.R.T goals in direct relation to your job position.

S SPECIFIC
M MEASURABLE
A ACHEIVABLE
R REALISTIC
T TARGETS

This way you agree to some job performance targets and if you hit them, theyll know youre the man for the job and worth the money you can ask for at the review date.

Go for it,youre not a monkey so dont settle for peanuts, but you got to show them what you are worth before you can ask for it.WOULD YOU SIGN A STRIKER WITH NO GOALS TO HIS NAME??????
