| Miss UK-Muscle Siren | Blood Test Results Hi all just wondering if anyone can shed any light on blood test results, we have just received the Mr's back and a few things are showing as abnormal which are Mean Corpuscular volume which is high (102.8) what is this? Total white cell count which is low as is the red cell count Lymphocyte count also low again dont know what this is so if anyone can shed any light Plasma ALT levels again no idea on this one but apparantly its higher than normal He is not on anything atm and hasnt been for around 2-3 years he got these done before he starts his next course but the doc basicly handed him the results and that was that no explanation or anything so any help would be grand. Cheers

These may still be called things like GSOT and ? in the USA. Did he also have a U/E? CRP? ARe you from the NE of the UK or USA cause mean corpusule volume sounds like a USA thing it is mean cell volume for the RBCs. Also if his red cell count is low, what was his Hb or haemoglobin? It is important to get actual NUMBERS, as there is low and there is LOW (and vice versa). Reference ranges from your home lab would be useful as well so 1. I don't have to look them up and 2. see below. The reference ranges are often established from the local population (or should be) and, due to some statistics stuff, does not include 5% of the population as they lay outside the 'bellcurve' or 2 standard deviations. White cells are the cells of the immune system, of which the lymphocytes are one type. Lymphocytes are the T and B cell and OK let me think NK or natural killer cells I believe. Like I said it depends on HOW low, just a little lower or higher could be perfectly normal for him. x x x T |
