| Wondering how people have the time to do all this over-complicating | coffee or tea? caffeine varies from drink to drink but i would estimate that two or three would be ok anymore is probably not

On that note, people talk about 'beer-bellies', but I've heard about 'tea-bellies' too - I'd have thought that any unsugared, non-alcoholic drink can only provide good hydration. KS

It depletes the body of water and as such the body goes into bloat mode to keep the water in the body if you drink too much. Best to drink decaffinated tea or java or drink 3 cups of water for every cup of caffine you have or every chocolate bar you eat. If you can press your fingernail into the underside of your forearm and leave an indentation you are in bloat mode and need to drink more water. I am in a bloat mode at the moment. I don't drink alot of caffine but I don't drink enough water, and I eat way too much salt..... working on changing that. :beer1:

You might be interested in hearing that the salt habit is quite easy to kick! IMO good quality salt, in small amounts, is healthy! Macrobiotic thing. After years of eating processed high sugar food, George Oshawa, founder of macrobiotics, says most Westerners are san paku, meaning three whites. People who are too yin (sugar) have the whites above their pupils and irises visible or three whites. Later HUN x x x

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Macrobiotics is interesting to me. I am too salty. I don't eat lots of processed foods or can foods. I do like salty foods which can be a sign I need more potassium. Salt is important to the cell's membrane permability so yes it is good to consume good quality salt. I need to drink more H2O is the bottom line for me. It really is. My body tells me I'm thirsty and I don't listen. Water is so blah to me. Cool stuff Eastern medicine.

Not only that but for those using alot of sugar with their coffee on a daily basis run a higher risk of insulin resistance. Everything in moderation. I do drink coffee every morning and would not consider starting my day without it.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I thiink coffee is a big no-no. When i drink a couple of pints of water in the morning, i do feel better, sharper and more awake than a cup of coffee ever does. I have worked in a few offices and the amount of coffee people consume is frightening-it really is frightening. 1-2 cups a day is fine i guess, but when you put it into perspective by the fact that it does take a couple of pints of water to get that hydration back, is it really worth it? Water really triggers my metabolism aswell making me eat more, so personally i would say 2 cups a day is the most (for me anyway), but i never touch the stuff. Water is the way to go :becky: We have a really nice tasting water down South so i actually enjoy drinking it.

Tea, bancha tea in particular is ok, and occasional barley malt type drinks. The premise is that one should take in most of their fluids in their foods! It is SO about balance, and even temperature can have an effect, cold in contracting or YANG, like salt. They do a lot of soups, miso figures strongly. Ok, my trick with water as I am not a big water drinker either. 4-6 herbal tea bags in 2 L of water, let it steep, if you want it sweet (I never do find the herbal teas I use sweet enough) add Splenda. and PRESTO have a squash/ribena/cool-aid type drink with out all the CRAP in it. Favourite teas Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger Twinings Blackcurrent Vanilla and Ginsing Cutting Super concentrated green tea is good, and I think helps with dehydration too Caffeine is NOT all that bad for you really, see paper after paper after paper in the British Medical Journal where all the implications for kidney and stomach problems are proven to be unfounded. In fact, most say that 1-2 cups increases alertness and performance. It is ONE OF THE BEST FAT BURNERS. It does this by blocking one of the feedback enzymes (cyclic AMP cascade) in the glycogen release. Keeps the pathway open, so glycogen will continue to be used. Once the glycogen is gone, fat is more readily used as fuel!
