![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Commercial Gym Equipment I have been asked by my work to investigate buying some gym equipment. We already have a concept 2 rower, a bike, a x trainer and some dumbells up to 25 kg (!). I think an olympic bar would be out of the question for H&S reasons, but I could possibly get a smith machine. Does anyone know of any manufacturers of good quality gym equipment like this? Home gym quality would be a bit flimsy so I'm after a good heavy duty piece of kit..... Any further suggestions? Multigym type thing?? Anyone know where to get some heavier fixed dumbells at a good price with racks? (have to be fixed for H&S) Any of you lot that own fitness stores can get a good deal on a couple of grands worth of stuff? Help appreciated

![]() ![]() | Alternatively find a buyer/seller who can supply high quality 2nd hand stuff. Theres quite a few people specialise in clearing out gyms of all their equipment if they have gone bust or thrown in the towel - they then just check its all working fine, then sell it off seperately. You can get some right bargins. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There's a hell of a lot of 2nd hand commercial equipment on the market also. The reasons being a) clubs like fitness first have a fast turnover of equipment and are frequently upgrading and b) a hell of a lot of independant gyms are going out of business with the current trends in the health club industry. And because there's so much 2nd hand equipment around, it has very little value. I remember when we sold our gym we did contemplate just selling the equipment as that would leave us with a good sized space to run the supplement business from for a good few years and the rent there was very cheap (about a 1/4 of what we pay now for the same sized building). When I got a quote on how much we could sell the equipment for though, the only company interested in buying it valued it at only one grand (not including the cardio stuff). 2 years previously it had cost 30 grand. Shocking. Very much a devalued market. For proper commercial stuff it is far better to buy 2nd hand than buy new. There are actually auctions specifically for fitness equipment from closed down gyms - we used to get notifications of them quite often.

I know it is the best value for money, but you know how daft the public sector can be.....they'd rather less good equipment that is new....probably.
