Fresh Start

Hi,
I stopped my regular training last year due to lack of time, location etc etc, the usual excuses! Also I lost motivation as I wasn't seeing any gains at all. Anyway, i'm now in the position where I can start properly now with the right diet (where I think I was going wrong before) and regular training. I'm at home quite a lot of the time which means I can be on a good diet and not have to worry about taking food/sups with me everywhere. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a reformed 'newcomer' about dieting in particular or any other tips!
I'm also a hardgainer and with a high metabolism I tend to get quite hungry between the usual meals.

Re: Fresh Start

If you get hungry between meals, and you're a hardgainer, then I would suggest you increase the number and frequency of your meals until you feel full basically most of the time.

I'd also suggest having a shake or two beside your bed at night, set an alarm, wake up to gulp it down, then off to sleep again.

If you start gaining too much fat, lower carbs/fat(especially), increase protein.

Maybe run your diet through the diet section too. Most guys who think they have a good diet but don't gain usually have a pretty bad one, to be honest :-)

Maybe not the best advice...

Shove up what training you are doing and maybe a typical days eating at the moment and let the nutritional gods of the board rip it to pieces ;)

Re: Fresh Start

Telling someone to lower their fat intake.

It's more likely that if they start putting too much fat on that they are eating too many carbs.

In fact, I would put money on them making the same mistake I and many others do and probably don't get ENOUGH fat...

Also, feeling full is not a good indicator, the body is a bit slow on the uptake and you will feel full AFTER you really are...

And you know this as a fact how, exactly?

Most people eat junk, which contains plenty of fat as well as simple carbs. Fat is the least metabolically active by a mile, however.

Well I don't disagree. However, feeling hungry between meals and being a 'hardgainer' would imply he's not eating enough, don't you think?

Re: Fresh Start

Yeah, in the past when I didnt understand the way the body works with food I stuck to three meals a day but tended to eat very big meals. Because of this for a person my size I can eat quite a large amount of food in one go. Im trying to stick to 6 or 7 smaller meals now and some good snacks in between. They should teach this stuff to kids at school, would sure as hell lower the amount of young obese people!
