How Many Calories?!

OK - im totally confused as to how many calories im supposed to be getting in every day if im trying to bulk up. Ive been losing weight for a while now, and ive managed to achieve that with ~3500 cals/day

>>> im 235lbs

>>> could someone please tell me about where i should be aiming for calories? 4000? 4500? 5000?!

What's the best rate to gain weight at? When losing, i aimed for no more than 2lbs a week

>>> can i apply the same logic to bulking up?

PS - someone should sticky some general 'rules' or something for bulking up like they have over on the losing weight part of the forums.

so, you loose on 3500

up by 20% 4200kcals

stay at this for 4 weeks

if your still losing bf (which i doubt), or staying the same add another 10%

if your gaining 1-2lbs a month then your on target

if your gaining more then your getting too fat and cut back by 10%

no, its almost impossible to gain more lean muscle than 1-2lbs a month as a natural, even on gear id say 2lb gain a wk is pushing the limit

i mean month dude

you may gain more on cycle but its water and blood

1-2lb a month is a lot of muscle even with juice

0.5-1lb a month is good for natty bb'ers

Sorry, newbie is confused :confused:

I was assuming you meant overall weight increase - muscle and fat, so 1-2lbs per month seemed kinda little.

How would you know how much lean muscle you were adding per month/week? Surely that'd be pretty difficult to weigh/measure?

Sorry if my Qs seem kinda dumb :(

1-2 lbs a month of muscle is LOADS.

Use body fat calipers to make sure all the weight you are gaining is not FAT!

Or keep measuring your waist

well the idea of this experiment is to stabilise your fat gain and gain muscle alone (you will pick up a little fat but not much if your bang on)

if you are not visable gaining fat in the mirror, but your gaining on the scales then you know your doing it right

1 to 2 lbs of muscle a month is alot.

Overfeeding is anabolic but you will gain some fat too.
So with weight gain you will gain some fat too.
The leaner you are the less fat you gain bulking.
The fatter you are cutting, the more fat you will lose.
